You might be sorry with black background. I wanted black background and black sand in my 240 when I set it up thinking this would make my fish stand out. I had to settle for gray background and black sand. Now a year later, I'm changing to white sand. My fish have darkened considerably, and my lights don't light the thing up that well during the day. At night the tank looks great but the fish (Discus) are DARK! I could put in more lights, but lighter sand will be cheaper, and I won't have to worry about increased algae growth.

thanks for the heads up. Do you have any pics of the grey background and black sand?

I was also thinking about having nothing on the bottom for a bit. At least until I get the filtration tweaked to how I want it. On a side note. My 90 gallon has started growing little spots of algea in it in the last 3 days. Ive never had algae grow on the glass of my tank before. Should i just wipe it off or it there something I can do to minimize the growth?

Very exciting....

well I had a couple minor bulkhead leaks. I took care of them today. Im going to finish filling the tank tonight and hopefully test the sump out tomorrow. Im going to wait for the rest of tonight and keep checking the bulkheads to make sure theres no more leaks. I hate plumbing, it makes my girlfriend super nervous having 3000 pounds worth of water in our livingroom!! Oh by the way did I say she also thinks Im freaking nuts for having a fish tank big enough to bathe in!! I cant wait to upgrade to a 600 now!!

very good deal..thanks for clearing it up..cant wait to see it running with fish!

The tank is full and the supm pumps are running. Its alittle louder than I had hoped so Im going to try and work on making the sump alittle quieter. Not sure how but Im going to play around with it and see what happens. Thanks for all the compliments everyone!! Ill take some more pics with the water in and the sump running!!

Feed less and reduce the light. It's probably just the nitrates from all those fish in that itty bitty tank.

I would leave it if I were you, this way most of the ntirates are uptaken by the algae (and not in the water, building up). Just let it grow. It's only a temporary tank, so it doesn't matter.

yeah thanks thats what I have been doing. So the tank is almost up to temp now. What will be the best way to do the tranfer? ie...tranfering the filters from the 90 to the 265? Should I take the filters off of the 90 and set them up on the 265 and tranfer all the fish over or should I do it slowly? Will my water perameters be ok by just cwitching the filters to the new tank? Im also going to add some prime to the water just to help with any ammonia spikes.
