That's for the kind words! I just picked up a baby birchir and black ghost knife. They're both about 2-3 inches and currently in the 55 gallon tank awaiting for the other tank to get set up. I did add dechlorinated treatment to the tank. I should probably drain the water 30% once more before adding the fish? Any other ideas? I'd like to put them in probably next week sometime.
Did you get a bottle of "Stability"?

What fish are you putting in thier? I know a small bicher and a black knife anything else or not sure yet?

Yea, a ornate bichir, black ghost knife, and a common pleco. I'd like to put the wolf fish in there but I'm almost positive he would destroy everything in the tank  Maybe I could try and add the wolf and watch to see if he does anything I only suggest this because I know as he gets older he will become more dominant to whatever tank he is placed in and it's best to start them early with tankmates. I think these little guys are behind in the race for growth though.

Sorry, I think the bichir is actually a senegal ("dinasaur") bichir. I finally snapped some pictures tonight. My 300W smart heater also came in so hopefully I'll be able to transport the fish over to the big tank tomorrow. I've got lots of work ahead of me trying to set up a nice looking scenery/decor for the tank.

No, I just have a bottle of dechloro to elimnate the chlorine in the water. Is there any specific brand I should pick up for "stability"?

I did pick up a bottle of stability last night and completed the first treatment. The temperature is slowly rising in the tank with the new 300W Rena heater on it. I'm not sure if it will be able to raise it up past 75F but we shall see when I get home later. If not I have another 300W Rena heater coming that will surely be enough to raise the temperature. Basements + winter = :( I only have one HOB on the tank right now. Should I wait until I can get both the rena xp3's on there and running before adding the fish?

Yes for sure and also do the fishless cycling before adding any livestock...

The only product of that kind that I have used with any success is SeaChem's "STABILITY", still, I'd do the fishless cycling...

First off, you need to raise the temp to the mid 80's

Add five (5) drops of pure ammonia, per ten (10) gallons of water.
Do this daily, until the NitrItes are measurable...

Once you get a NitrIte reading, you decrease the daily ammonia drops to three (3) drops per ten (10) gallons of water.
Continue this daily until you get a
Zero (0) Ammonia and a Zero (0) NitrIte reading.

At this time measure for NitrAte, you should have a 20-40ppm reading.

Now, do a 25-30% water change, discontinue the Ammonia drops, adjust the temperature and Add fish...

No dead sacrificial animals, and you are ready for a fairly healthy amount of fish...
;)
