just set up a 125g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Everything looks awsome man, the plants and that awsome stump looks great.

As for the sand problem, get the sponge filter intakes for your filter. I have fine black sand too and it doesn't get sucked up. Also keeps uneaten food from getting in your filter and your fish have a chance to get it.

how about a nice Wide Bar Dat? Or maybe some large Indos? Idk I'm just a big fan of dats haha

maybe cichlas but to me the only species worth the trouble (price/color/amt of food ratio)wise are Azuls!!!!!
:grinno:

Glad to hear your L. thayeri aren't psycho. Mine haven't been either. I got a group of six from John (snookn21) and they're living happily in my 210 with large sevs and a chocolate cichlid. They tend to be very social and stick together -- from what I can see, it's five males and a female.

I may have a good deal on some discus for you. I'm the co-owner of SimplyDiscus.com and I'm currently raising out a group of six albino golden discus for our yearly Discus Hobbyist Challenge. The challenge ends on June 1 and then I'll have six small adult discus to re-home.

Like jgentry said, black backgrounds and substrate are not good for discus colors... except albinos, which lack black pigment and therefore do not turn sooty on black backgrounds. ;) You have the perfect water for them, you just need to keep them warm (about 82 - 84F) and do frequent large water changes. In a lightly stocked 125g you could probably get away with 50% a week.

So now you have something to mull over. lol.

Great looking setup! Discus and a large skool of cardinal tetras!

very nice tank. what about a pair of rainbow cichlids? Love the driftwood and the black sand. Can you put some nylon stockinette over the intake to prevent the sand from getting in? Maybe double up the stockinette?

Thanks. I worry that the nylon stockinette might get clogged soon tho.

Great! I just got a few sponge replacements and will definitely try it out. Thanks!

Large dats are hard to come by in my area...would love to keep them tho. I'm not sure if the tank is big enough for cichlias?

whats the wattage and Kelvin rating?

2x 32w 10k bulbs. The fixture came with the tank. I have 2x 4x65w CF fixtures I can use, but I think it may be an overkill for this tank.

that is an awesome set-up i think that anything with bright colors would look great in there

Thanks! Looking for something that contrast the black sand too. Thought about a festae pair but it's probably too risky.

Thanks! Looks more and more like it's going to happen that way :D

I think a platinum endli and a fire eel would look wonderful in a setup like that. Something to really contrast the black sand and background.

Good ideas. Not sure if I can afford a platinum endli tho :D
