People who are intelligent enough to understand, but have yet to have the education part... are a large portion of people who are here looking for proper direction. I will continue to explain things logically to these people and will continue to expose false summaries or other misconceptions...

do with that what you wish.........
Actually I have little "sharpie" marks on the corner of my tank to determine, by measurement, the gallons I drop my water level, when doing my weekly W/C.cookdav2;3439013; said:Well I really don't want to interrupt you guys conversation but just asking so is it better to add water and then the dechlorinator, because its easier for me to use a python to do my water changes. What is the notion of overdose? Prime?

great tip with the sharpie lines, and if it is worth it to you, you could make an algae filter, or buy a nitrate filter online if thats the only reason u do w/czennzzo;3439112; said:Actually I have little "sharpie" marks on the corner of my tank to determine, by measurement, the gallons I drop my water level, when doing my weekly W/C.
Then, I follow to the "T", the manufacturers recommendation, for dosing my water on refill, for dechlorinating. If you look, it is always less than the amount they recommend, for moving/adding/reducing stress etc.
so if I just dechlorinate, I am well below the max recomended dose, no problem with potential OD.
So, I use a designated cup, that doses the same amount for dechlorinating 80 gallons of tap water.
When I get ready to refill, I secure the hose to the fitting on the back of my tank, turn the tank valve open, and turn the tap on full blast.
As it is filling, I pour the dechlorinator in the stream, glug, glug, glug, add my salt, done...
When the level reaches the high water mark I turn off the tank valve, then go turn off the tap.
80gallons for a weekly w/c for my 225g + large sump is just right.
Not enough difference in temp, or Ph, to throw things into a crash.
within 2-4 hours the temp is right back to 84f and my Nitrates are below 40ppm, closer to 25-30ppm, and that is the only reason I do W/C's
I have used the algae scrubber, solar powered even... and it has it's placedevder1;3439130; said:great tip with the sharpie lines, and if it is worth it to you, you could make an algae filter, or buy a nitrate filter online if thats the only reason u do w/c
thats cool just for me personally water changes are not fun and if i try to cut down on them as much as possiblezennzzo;3439145; said:I have used the algae scrubber, solar powered even... and it has it's place
I do remove some of the remaining solids and ditrus doing the W/C but...
I still believe,
the ONLY real cost effective
Solution for Pollution, is Dilution, to me...the rest only adds work and the W/C is easiest I think...
