... and what would it be? :) i really dream of having a neon tetra planted tank. ALL the plants i ever put into my puny fish aquarium died - no exception. I have no idea what plants were but i got them all in LFS

the only success i ever had with plants was morning glory thriving in my sump of the large out door set-up which died after i doused the set-up with malachite green

you really should be asking this in general aquaria or other characins... but ive just put them in well established tanks and havent had a problem... i had to play with ph one time but that all stopped after the fish were in the tank for a month then it was only my tap water....

 I love this... that it totally my method... I don't need to use Prime even...Straight from the Tap here... do it often... feed when ever I feel like it (everyday usually)

What is this "floating" that you speak of... I think I did that once ... when I was a kid... that fish died LOL... (seriously I use it only in the winter cause the water in the bags can be VERY different from the tank) I've had the K.I.S.S method for years and also the F-IT method which basically is just do it already stop complaining about it.

I think as long as you use the common sense that you learned when you got your first fish... it should all work out well in the end :D

people use common sence :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Nice, this is pretty much exactly what I was looking for, as my friend wants to do rays and I have no clue about them haha. Also, someone should make one of these for saltwater too, at least for FO or FOWLR, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who was scared s***less to go to the darkside at least at first lol.

Love the no test kits. Everyone seems to always ask 'did you test your water' as soon as something as wrong. Thought there was something wrong with me that I just do a water change when there's something wrong with the fish. Started using a kit a bit because of the paranoia I perceived around keeping the water pristine, but went back to my ways quickly and don't use them (never been in the habit, never will be).

I got test strips from my last trip to USA ... i use it for fun when i have nothing better to do ... the results are ... interesting .... and perplexing.... but the fish is OK and eating and swiming...so i am not too worried

Got a liquid nitrite test kit (tetra) ... and got really interesting readings ... my GF is bringing back from OZland ammonia and nitrate liquid test kits for further testing.

Overhere, these test kits are used by those who have saltwater only... no one tests water for freshwater. I started to test after being on MFK ... paranoia?

In general i rely on observing fish only. If it acts normal then it is OK - no gasping, not sitting at the bottom, eating, scales look pristine, eyes are clear etc then it can't be that bad

PS: i do use decholorinator for my indoor set-ups and run water through a drinking filter for outdoor one... my neighbor does not do any of those <gulp> straight tap water (but never entire pond)

The only test I have is a constant PH meter on my tanks.

K.I.S.S. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID

lets look at the kiss method and how many people use it....im just throwing this out there... this is how i keep rays and have several friends who do the same..

1. WE DONT CRY ABOUT THINGS....
2. water changes are done via tap water and prime.PH is what ever comes out of the tap
3. feed quality foods
4. KEEP THE WATER PRISTINE VIA WATER CHANGES(LARGE 50%)

these have proven to be very successful for us... rays have bred (some are still trying with multiple still births but we are dealing with that)
i have not used a test kit in 2 years give or take... i cycle tanks with out them.. ive put rays on very wide diets via starving them for several weeks... not 3 days and worry....again no need to cry about things...

these are just what we do... you want more specifics just ask... funny how when you keep things simple it works better...

I would only add:

5. Having excellent filtration.

same rules apply for salt water

i will be using a pinpoint meter on my new set up for the drip system... when i spoke to Li about his he told me he just watches his PH and determines how much to increase/decrease with that...

agree... i thought that with pristine water but should have mentioned it :)

Thanks for this kiss method for stingrays. It emboldens people to keep stingrays who may have thought they are too difficult to keep and at the same time explains some basics requirements for keeping them. I hope this becomes a sticky.
