I think your exodons are still at the size where they see your larger cichlids and are scared... if u feed them enough flakes and/or small pellets u should be ok. And your cichlids are going to continue to grow as well, they should be fine for quite some time. 1-2" exodons aren't gonna kill any cichlids of that size overnight, if u start to notice scales missing or badly torn fins then maybe look into rehoming them. Until then, I say let the experiment continue :thumbup:

As a lot of piranha owners get exodons, its a topic I see a lot. Census is its long term failure. 10 Isnt even enough exos anyways. You really should go bigger school then that
I've never seen them exceed 3" max, so large cichlids will eat them. Also I would avoid smaller or less aggressive cichlids because the opposite can happen. Most people say do not mix them.

didn't realize I should've gotten more ballinouttacntrol. If this experiment works out maybe I will.
Cichlifish you might be psychic. As of this morning two of the smallest ones have died. Not much trauma on their bodies, but I'm sure GT had something to do with it. The others seem fine. I'll have to keep an eye out. I don't want to use these guys as expensive feeders.

After further investigation it was a small one and actually one of the larger ones. Not sure what caused it, but I have seen the GT attack schools at night before. Maybe he caught them but had problems swallowing them. I once had to pull a filament barb out of his mouth with pliers. His eyes tend to be bigger than his stomach.
Would love to see pics. Ive never seen anyone be able to show bigger then 3.2 inches
Yup GTs are larger predators and will try to eat anything live. I think you may be right. I would keep an eye on the exos, but do you have another tank? They would make a great sp. tank. I have wanted to keep exos with cichlids for a long time, but many people who have done it and everything I have read says its a bad idea. What about silver dollars or something larger than filament barbs?
Same here.
I had filament barbs. 8 of them at 4"-6". I added melafix after the GT developed a sore and for some reason they all died over night. I miss them. They were really beautiful. I always thought silver dollars would quickly out grow a 55.
Yes I think the SD would out grow the 55g. If your GT will kill and eat filament barbs, then I don't know what else to suggest since a 55g doesn't give you a lot of options. That is a shame about the filament barbs, because they are beautiful.
