keeping illegal fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BTW, there are threads on this site concerning finding a method to legally obtain asian aros in the US. There are also threads discussing the possibility of changing the current laws to allow the species back into the US. These threads include gov't agencies and officials to contact to add voices in the hopes of initiating changes.

Begin by checking the stickys at the top of the arowana forum.

I still think the really dangerous ones to our ecosystems should be illegal no matter where you live. Snakeheads are amazing fish but they have no place in this country. For every 100 responsible fish owners that would never release something like this into a river, there's one idiot that doesn't care about the damage it will do to our native species. I suppose if you live in the northern us or canada they would be perfectly safe to own but people could still ship or drive them south to a place where they would be dangerous.

I think all pet animals should be outlawed then because that is pretty much what happens whenever a dog or CAT escapes and starts breeding and killing! Actually I think humans are illegal all they do is breed and expand and kill. I think we are responsible for 99 percent of the worlds extinctions. in the last 1,000 years. Not asian arrows or native bass that where tank raised.

Wow, hyperbole-much? If packs of house cats or escaped chihuahuas were exterminating native species left, right and center, I'm sure you'd seen some Gov. intervention.

As for the second part...you are quite correct, humans are the most destructive invasive species currently on the planet, however I don't know where you're going to go with this avenue of thought...

Snakehead is a whole family of fish and banning all of them is pretty stupid when really only one is a threat, the northern snake-head, and as I stated before alot of very popular pets are destructive in the enviroment.

Maybe you've never been any where with feral animals that descend from domestic animals. My grandpa used to have an issue with feral cats that used to be someones outdoor cats then they ran off mated with someone else' "outdoor" cat and bam. He actually shot them on sight since they would attack you if you approached them. They killed everything all the song birds etc. not just chipmunks. This happened in Illinois. Just saying that its a real issue I know we in the suburbs don't feel the impact of it since nature is a novelty. If we didn't have the ANIMAL shelters picking up and putting down animals like clockwork I expect we'd have more of an issue with this But instead of banning pets we built up a whole entitlement program around certain ones :P Just ask animal control if all cats/dogs are created equal. If we had a whole industry built up around fish keeping and waterway upkeep like we do cats and dogs we would be having this discussion. The fish equivalent isn't 1/10 the size.

zero facts? just like not one mod can point to a forum being shut down? come on.

if you guys were really concerned about the trading/sales of illegal species you'd take all of five minutes and monitor the pm's of people who live in CA and have illegal fish and are regularly in the buy/sell forum. but you don't, i've seen the mod logs.

Don't look to me for that info. I never said anything about a site being shut down. How do you have access to the mod logs? You don't know an iota of what goes on in the background. The staff shuts down illegal sales as soon as they're found or reported.

Now, as to my query to you...?

You're right, cats and dogs enjoy a special privileged status amongst pets. Cats especially, what other pet owners feel it's their right to let their pets loose in the neighborhood.

However, "feral" cat populations still only tend to occur in areas near human habitation rather than taking over natural ecosystems. It's quite a bit different than the Nile Perch in Lake Victoria, which I think is the best example of what an invasive species can do once it's loose.

how do i have access to the mod logs? why, a mod of course.

Sorry. Don't believe you. The logs are way too long for you to garner any pertinent info from them even if you did have access to them. Go away troll
