Id say in not the governments Buisness what type of fish you have. As long as you dont release it when you dont want it anymore. And im sure theres still alot of people who have snakeheads here. How many people are just gonna kill there fish theyve kept for years just because one day the gov. put a ban on them.
I agree. With most other laws its not the law that makes them good or bad the action itself has something morally wrong with it. For example it's obvious stealing and killing are bad(or morally wrong), but in this case it is "wrong" for no other reason than there is a law against it with no obvious moral problem stemming from the keeping of said fish. Keeping an illegal fish is absolutely fine IMO releasing one into the wild is bad whether there is a law against it or not.

The release of illegal fish is definately bad but keeping them is absolutely fine. Also why would you ever report someone for violating a law you disagree with anyway.

Sorry. Don't believe you. The logs are way too long for you to garner any pertinent info from them even if you did have access to them. Go away troll

i moderate on a couple of other forums and i'm not new to the internet by any stretch of the imagination. heck, i've been doing the BBS thing since the early 80's. understanding whats in mod logs isn't that difficult.

but you missed the point. either on purpose or maybe you don't know. this forum could take an active stance against those that own/sell illegal FW fish past just freezing/deleting accounts and deleting posts inquiring about illegal fish. if you want, i'll help with the moderating and link you to a few pix of people here in socal with illegal fish in pix they've posted in the photo lounge. what you do with that is up to you.

and yes, it is that easy in socal to get illegal FW fish if you know a LFS owner or member of this forum well enough. plus its alot easier when you're 30+ years old and have proven to be proficient at keeping rare/illegal freshwater fish. i could text/call/pm probably a dozen socal members from this forum alone and get just about whatever i wanted. but i don't, because the fish i like are legal to own.

You're right, cats and dogs enjoy a special privileged status amongst pets. Cats especially, what other pet owners feel it's their right to let their pets loose in the neighborhood.

However, "feral" cat populations still only tend to occur in areas near human habitation rather than taking over natural ecosystems. It's quite a bit different than the Nile Perch in Lake Victoria, which I think is the best example of what an invasive species can do once it's loose.
Oh yeah? What about feral cats on islands? They have huge impacted on the island ecosystems.

obviously i understand why alot of fish are illegal in warmer places. BUT I LIVE IN CT. the lakes here get covered with 3 feet of ice. please someone explain to me what a piranha or giant snakehead could do if released in lakes up here. answer....NOTHING.

The problem is the fish don't stay in Connecticut. People will distribute them elsewhere.

out of curiosity is it a high risk shipping illegal fish or does the government not really check into fish being shipped?

lol i think this is what oddball is talking about. i'll let him answer this one.

Yes good point, I should have been more specific. I meant in a North American context, given that we were talking about North American fish prohibitions.

I do know that the boxes are always check out constantly at airport.

This site has stated numerous times that it will not allow the trade of illegal species on this site. However, in the interest of the husbandry of the fish, it will allow discussions on the husbandry of all species with the proviso that all members realize that the legality of the species they post will fall under the view of F&W and DNR agents that frequent the site.
