keeping illegal fish

It is the government's business if those fish could escape and destroy wild indigenous populations. The problem is people do release them when they don't want them anymore.

I think all pet animals should be outlawed then because that is pretty much what happens whenever a dog or CAT escapes and starts breeding and killing! Actually I think humans are illegal all they do is breed and expand and kill. I think we are responsible for 99 percent of the worlds extinctions. in the last 1,000 years. Not asian arrows or native bass that where tank raised.

Actually there has been a lake that is believed to have piranha in it in Minnesota.... It was on the Discovery channel a while back....

They are about to ban pythons too. I'll kill anyone who tries to take my babies from me! The government bans lots of stuff that doesn't make sense. There are plenty of things they SHOULD ban. But we like scary animals, and the media has to blow everything out of proportions, giving the government support for their stupidity, and to reach their personal goals. I mean snakeheads are quite obviously out to get your children. And pitbulls, they are obviously out to kill everyone and everything, and they'll rip your face off in your sleep! Same w/ pythons, quite obviously they are gonna hunt you and eat you Pythons eating people, insane... We like big scary fish. Gator gar look terrifying, but aren't. We know that, but ur average idiot would see the teeth, and assume they are horrible beasts out to get you. Stupidity and ignorance is our greatest enemy, and tragically, when people make up their minds, they can't be changed. My favorite saying: "Don't confuse me with the facts, my minds' already made up!" It's sad, but usually true.

Extinctions are part of the planets evolution. The entire world was dominated by Dinosaurs and now extinct creatures. Cannot blame man for that!!!! New species are created nearly as fast as they are depleted.......Maybe the creatures are the size of bacteria.....maybe the size of insects....who are we to judge?

Owning illegal fish is fine in my opinion. I don't own any myself but I wouldn't hesitate to buy an illegal fish if I wanted it. When it gets too big u have to kill it though.... Not let it go

or not get it if you cant house it for life...and I would agree with you except for buying fish that are illegal because of wild populations. Oh and I wouldnt buy one if its illegal, id just think it shouldnt be illegal if there isnt a reason for me to not have one

21 years ago in ithaca Ny my upstairs neighbor....(who was really hot) gave me a 5" RBP. She had three but they killed each other off and this was the last one.....it had one eye but was otherwise healthy. It was a " take it or i am gonna flush it" senerio. I named him One-Eyed-jack. I kept it for 5 years on the sly as they were not legal even back then.....along woth my completely legal snakeheads!

can someone please post the addy of a site shutdown by the feds for simply discussing the trade of illegal fish/wildlife? i can't find one on google yet.

also, since we're on the topic of illegal/legal, what is the sites policy on countries like canada and england that allow the sale of farm raised asian aros. if we're taking the stance that since they are 100% illegal in the states due to CITES are we going to ban the discussion of them since this website is based in the states?

Must be nice to post with zero facts on hand. We have never banned discussions on the species. What we do curtail is any discussion on obtaining any species illegally in the US. Look around, there are a number of posts/threads offering or discussing trade and husbandry of asian aros in other countries legally.
