keeping illegal fish

Anyway, what is so damn special about a snakehead? Get a damn bowfin. If you can't get a bowfin, get something that else that is similar. I think people are so stuck on wanting thing they are not allowed to have. They act like they are being deprived and want it even more. Alot of you people that are complaining really have no clue. They are illegal for a reason.

At last the coyotes keeping the cat numbers in check.
Indeed, and dogs are even less of a threat.

yeah, of all the fish i've had shipped i've yet to have a box opened by either fedex/ups/usps

I wouldn't say constantly, I can't even remember the last time I saw a re-taped box that had been opened by customs, out of the hundreds I see per year.

even if the boxes were checked do these workers have the proper knowledge to even know what species of fish are illegal?
I would think that illegal fish are low on the todem poll of illegal things they are looking for

lol i think this is what oddball is talking about. i'll let him answer this one.

We've posted news articles concerning the arrests of importers and dealers of illegal species. The gov't may not check all boxes but, we know that shipping boxes are checked by the number of importers busted for illegal smuggling of asian aros and snakeheads (the last SH bust was for importing live SHs for asian food markets).

They don't open the boxes, as they don't have to.

Maybe you've never been any where with feral animals that descend from domestic animals. My grandpa used to have an issue with feral cats that used to be someones outdoor cats then they ran off mated with someone else' "outdoor" cat and bam. He actually shot them on sight since they would attack you if you approached them. They killed everything all the song birds etc. not just chipmunks. This happened in Illinois. Just saying that its a real issue.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, but look on youtube for videos of feral dogs.

I'm sorry I don't have super huge tanks space and would love nothing more than the dwarf species but alas they are seen as dangerous for being able to eat all of a minnow and survive in the souther tip of Florida(everything can survive down their) including peacock bass. Maybe we should ban them. Wait there is a sport fishing peacock bass in Florida, my bad :P

So how many species of snakehead can survive in Minnesota waters?

Yeah, they're a pain in a lot of places. What I meant is they're not spreading off into wild ecosystems in North America. Most wild dog issues are around areas with people.

The logic behind banning all of them is to prevent people bringing in in the bad ones under the name of the others. I'm not saying it's the best thought out plan, but still.

Trust me, I understand stupid animal restrictions....in my home town, it's technically illegal to have (this is word for word);

-pythons or boas of any species
-terrapins
-giant tortoises
-lionfish
-poisonous colubrid snakes
-rabbits*
-geckos*
*these were removed eventually

However, it is legal to have cobras, komodo dragons, stonefish, stingrays, gila monsters and a variety of other dangerous stuff. The bylaw was cooked up by people with no animal knowledge, no research of any kind and apparently no common sense.
