My rose queen and rd/midas do this all the time. They see the drops sticking to the inside of the glass tops (or a pellet stuck on there) and bang the tops to knock them off. Even my severum does this. It makes sense that after you fed him he calmed down.

I find it hard to believe that you would have that bad water quality to make a fish try to jump out of it!

Burt :)
thats what i thought two cause my oscar does this also

Do you feed him floating pellets? Often my oscars, and sometimes my midas, will nose the lids of their tanks near feeding time or when people place things on top of their tank. (heavy oak lids make handy junk tables for keys). For sure get you water checked and check it often, but look at the behavior of your fish. Is it just random slamming against the top? or is the fish looking up, choosing a target, then hitting the top?

I guess I'm pretty lucky, I have had my rd for seven years now and I have never even needed glass lids on my tank. Just out of curiousity, how full do you keep your tank? If you are worried about it you could lower your water a little bit until you figure out what is going on.

im not sure im gunna pay attention, usually i would just hear slaming so thts why but i never payed attetion if he picked a target, because when i go near the tank he goes crazy and all he does is follow me for food.

and yes hes fed floating pellets, and my tank is 1 inch from the lid
give him sinking pellets.. he thinks theres more pellets somewhere up there.... :D and put a weight on the tank... board or stone something so he does not jump... he will suffer losing scales and slime and risk severe injury...

check the water there might be stress. i have had fish keep doing this and changing the water helps. does he also sometimes swim upsidedown or sideways.

+1 that, I had a young oscar that would always go after condensation drops that collated under lids.
