Kid safe wet pet for a 75.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Clown loaches will outgrow a 75, but it will take a good long while. They are also easy enough to rehome. They are awesome fish with tons of personality once they get good and comfortable.

+1. Clowns will eventually outgrow a 75, but that's a long long time. Big clowns can be sold/rehome easily, its just that clowns have BIG personality.

  1. fun clowning around personality
  2. sleeps on side at night next to each other
  3. plays dead
  4. swims as a swarm
  5. fights among each other for food, makes clicking noises while feeding
  6. active swimmers
  7. tolerant of others, even if attacked still not shy
  8. slow growers
  9. not choosy about food

Its all about the personality.

Burmese border loaches, stays 4-5". Good looking, good personality as clowns. Petsmart has a sale going on now.

I would second the gold fish. Yes they are common but not many grow to be the sizes they can be (due to improper care) my kids LOVE their gold fish very interactive and very intelligent. My kids have a fantail and black moore. I have been toying with the idea of doing a comet goldfish tank.

My second vote would be Oscar never have a I seen a more personable cichlid.

A voice of reason!

My vote goes to Angel fish!

I loved them as a kid, and still do.
I used to think because they are common, they would be boring or bland.
But for a kid they are great, they look odd, and they will eat right from your hand on day 2.

And you can add smaller non aggressive fish with them like betta splendes which colorwise is great for kids.
Espescially if you do the mirror trick.

I also would recommend goldfish, but i've never been able to keep them with plants once they grow to a certain size.

as far as cichlids go i would recommend paratilapia pollenii, they have oscar personality but are a little rarer. also amphilophus saggittae are nice fish. the gulper catfish would be great fun tbh, probably the coolest fish ever to a kid if you wanna grow your own feeders. other than that im loving my spiny eels atm, bourneo python eel would be cool, my lfs has them atm, if only i had room!-)

Goldfish is excellent choice. So are Oscars and Blood Parrots. I would think that big convicts would be a good choice.

I would take FH and puffers off the list, kids are not safe with them.

Also personally if I were a kid, I would find the gulper catfish to be boring.

Severum. Fits nicely in a 75. Always begging for food. Won't bite the hands that feeds it.

I may be cheating here as I already commented blood parrots, but I think goldfish are also an excellent option; especially the slower moving fancy types.
