Ebo Jager!

A few years ago, I used to be a ebo Jager guy, and i do have many still in use. However they changed the manufacturer of them. And now they arnt fully submersible. A lot of people still use them as that, but you'll see on the newer ones there is a water line. It made me leary. However I've used them fully submersed since then and have had no problems. I just didnt want to chance my prized fish collection with that, and Stealth heaters had awesome reps at that time. I will most likely be buying a ebo jager again.

little update: I noticed when I got up for work it had consumed .22 more killowats throughout the night. Seems to be right on track.

the water line is only there because legally in north america it has to be on there in order to get electrical approval - (CSA for Canada and UL for the United States).

they have always been fully submersible and are identical to the ones sold in europe that do not have a water line printed on them.

its only there to meet the legal requirements in order to get approval to be sold here in North America.

so don't worry. I know its confusing because the literature says sumbersible but then there is still a water line printed on them.

this is why.

now, the newest Eheim Jagers have big stickers on them saying that they have gained UL/CSA approval without a water line, so the newest ones at the LFS should have no water line on them.

I know the Ebo's were bought out by Eheim several years ago, and some have had issues with them since the switch. I have not.

let us know if your new Ebo has the big sticker and the 'new safety cord' that allowed them to get rid of the water line here in North America.

Great to know. I knew there was something behind it, but was having trouble getting the details. Even when we asked the ebo jager rep directly, he didnt know the answer.

I believe this info was first posted and verified several years ago over on reefcentral.com.

thats where I first read about it.

UPDATE:
I'm moving the Kill a watt to my dehumidifier now. So time to post up the results from my 100 watt heater.

Run time: 98.37 Hours
Wattage used: 890 watts
Cost per Month: $0.55
Cost per Year: $6.70

I picked up a temp guage today. It'll measure both my fish room temperature, and outside temp. This will help with these tests as well. As I really wanted to have outside temps in this study as well.

I checked the website and it said my local Home Depot carries this item... yet I could not find it anywhere in the store and none of the several employees I asked had any clue what I was talking about...

I'll try Lowes Wednesday (my next day off work)...

I had to ask an employee where it was. It was in the isle where timers, computer surge protectors, phone cords etc were... No where near electrical stuff...

Maybe I'll double check HD... I was looking in electrical and they were telling me that's where all their meters and guages were...
