but still back to the idea of why can't we have the farmed fish that have color if they're not the endangered ones

On second thought, these fish cant be the hardest to breed I mean they are not as delicate as discus with all of their needs there are even saltwater fish that are being bred regularly. These guys who produce them on their farms are doing so on a nice sized scale, that cant be chalked up to luck.I think the rain season has something to do with their spawning and I think I have an old article about a pair spawning here in a large tank.

if these fish are not hard to breed, then these fish are not gonna be in the endangered status, if what you said about that old article that you had read is true then we already have bunches of them. if you think sexing these fish are easy, then you already have a pair even they are small. even asian arowana farmers are not 100% sure about the sex of their fish unless they saw it brood and lay eggs. and about breeding in a tank you said, i think only less than 5 people are successful in making their arowanas spawn and most of them are asian people in asian country

Who says the micrchip thing would remain in effect,if it was such a big deal chipped fish would be sold here.

What so you think they would drop the system they developed to allow for the distribution of legitimate captive-bred fish world-wide after they remove the ban on importing them into the US? :screwy:

The reason they're banned in the US is not because its too hard to distinguish between captive bred and wild caught fish, its because your foolish law doesn't discriminate between the two.

thats not the point david, anyway if they were to legalize it all the countries in asia will have to form a meeting to make all aro-farms contribute 30% of their offsprings to the wild anually...they wont do it why? thats like dumping money into the wild. also they will have to have scientists study and have the population documented professionally. i dont think they will do that just so that americans can have a fancy fish in a tank at home. if no ones gonna invest money and time to help with the wild FARM BRED OR NOT there is no way its gonna happen.

woah this thread is too intense for me.

wow now what a way of conserving a so called endangered species:nilly:
