Krobia sp. 'Xingu'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Then my guys have a lot of growing to do!

I love how they get kind of tall for an acara. They have a nice pronounced forehead. :D

Do you have pictures of the rest of your Krobia, dogofwar?

I'm hoping someone will post some better pictures of him from Aquafest...but I'll look through my old pics... Might have taken some breeding pictures some time in the past...

Amazingly, the mauled female seems to pulling through in the hospital tank. Missing an eye, though :(

It's been three months since I posted about my Krobia so I thought I'd take some updated pictures.

They have grown a bit in length but they've definitely fattened up and gotten chunky. As you can see from the nicked fins, there's a lot of fighting going on. Sometimes it's from the F1 notatus, sometimes it's from each other. It's definitely time for a larger tank. The notatus are going into my 150 gallon, so I'm not sure if I want to leave the Krobia in a 55 alone or if I want to move them to the 150 as well. If they get to 5 - 6" I'm guessing they'd appreciate the larger tank...

Beauties!!! How big are they now? Any prespawning behavior?

Thanks. :) They're all 3 - 3.5" now. I'm afraid it's mostly males. They all chase and torment each other. Every now and then I catch the largest male flare up and display for the smallest, so I hope that means he's flirting with a female.

I think if I take the notatus out of the tank things may calm down a bit and they'll feel comfortable enough to pair off. My experience with L. dorsigera was that they wouldn't spawn in a busy tank, but the second I removed their tankmates I had eggs everywhere.

Wow they really are gorgeous def in my top 5 fav fish :) Ive been offered some but the only tank I could put them in at the moment is my 55 with my female nic and a group of Guinacaras. Dont think there is room really for them as well shame though.... but one day haha

I have both females separated from my male xingu. He had brutally beaten the female with whom he wasn't spawning. She survived although lost an eye. She actually fattened up nicely. The pair that spawned raised babies to wigglers but then ate them. Between the pair of acaras (wild pair of sp. airuguiaense) doing pre-spawning and the male's amorous advances, she was getting picked on quite a bit...so she also separated. I need to put them in a bigger tank than a 4' one...currently the inn is full, though :)

Matt, do you also have some of the blue-faced ones now? Any chance of getting some pictures?
