Buddha, is that the Lago de Izabal from Guatemala strain Gage has listed right now or is it different? Great pictures btw. Do you prefer them over pearsi?

yes it is the lago de izabal(sorry forgot to post that). and yes i preferr them over pearsi but pearsi make great tank mates for them.

i think dovii pair is fine for 180. females get nowhere near as large as males and yes males can get huge in the wild they rarely get over 17-18 inches in the hobby. ive seen adult dovii pairs that were 6 yrs old and the males were in that 17-18 range. that was in a 300 gallon. i also seen grown dovii pair in a 180 gallon when i was down by altoona and they looked perfect in there. your not going to see a 24 inch dovii unless you catch a monster in the wild.

I guess we look at tank size differently. I like to try to keep a fish in a tank that's around twice as wide and the fish will grow long. I've seen JK47's pair in his 300 gallon many times and that male uses every inch of that tank and makes it look tiny. Also, a bigger tank will likely help with aggression between the pair, which is essential with dovii.

What would you recommend as far as tank mates with them besides pearsi? Think they could live with vieja/paratheraps? I hear they're pretty mellow but I assume they can take care of themselves if needed?

mine have lived with, agentea, synspilumi, lyonsi, oscars, uaru, are currently housed with pearsi, regani and chocolates.
all have done well<my male can be a bully at times, from totally dominatning to passive, depends on his mood.
never had him actually harm a tank mate(once he lets them know how is boss everything seems to stay fine after that)
the pearsei is the only one that actually spares with him(both close in size)both large and thick.but no damage or injuries.(mainly flaring)
female is totally passive.

We had our Male in a 150 Dovii for life alone? I could completely imagine a female with him in a 180.
For a 180 weve done:
Dovii pair
Jag pair
Triminac pair
Flowerhorn Trio
F2 Barred Midas Trio

All at different times.

Enough with the dovii talk. If you want to cramp a pair in a tank that's under 200 gallons that's on you. 6x2x2' is not a lot of space for a fish that big IMO, everyone get to make their own decisions on what is acceptable in their own tanks.

The largest pair of parachromis I would suggest in a thank that size would be Jags. I would not keep a pair of Dovii in 180, any of the fish Budda suggested would work well in a 180 IMO.

Wow.. Thanks for all the replies!... Been looking at some of the fish you all suggested. So, to clarify, I am not very interested in the dovii. They are large but not colorful. I love the veija's and the synospilum but do they have the in your face personality that some FH's do? To be perfectly honest I am Leaning toward the festae or the flowerhorn. I want a big, bold, beautiful fish. I am not going to be upgrading. So, a fish that gets no larger then 20" is necessary. Again, I want it to be an interactive fish that I dont have to look around to find. Are festae like that? I would love a large high quality flowerhorn. How big do they get?
