Large Cichlid for a 180 gallon.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, after looking at some fish I like the festae, the synspilus belize, the yellow midas cichlid, and of course the flowerhorn. But once again I am looking for something that gets monstrous 15-24 inches and something very colorful. So, the question is do any of these fish I named get huge?

Synspilus can get to 15"
Festae can get 14-20" for a male but they grow VERY SLOWLY, and its rare to find one that big.
Dovii can get 14-20"+

if you want to get say 5 males, synspilus and festae can work together but I wouldnt mix dovii with anything unless you have a larger tank,

Do you think youre more inclined towards group of 5 individuals or a breeding pair?

Your tank isn't big enough for anything that gets THAT big. It's only 24" wide. I wouldn't try a pair of dovii in a 180... Wouldn't even keep them in a 280. I'd say 300 gallon WIDE minimum.

I have Vieja Regani Pair, Vieja Synspilum Pair, Midas Cichlid Pair, Satanoperca daemon Pair, Paratheraps fenestratus Male, Parachromis dovii Pair 11''!, Hoplarchus psitticus (True Parrot Cichlid) 1 Male, Caquetia umbriferum Male, Astatheros rhytisma 1 adult male, 2 adult females, Amphilophus lyonsi 1 male, 3 females Availble

but if he IS upgrading, (still don't know if he is he hasn't replied) then it shouldn't be an issue

I would never assume someone is upgrading unless it is explicitly stated.

To the OP: Your tank really isn't big enough for a full grown 24" fish. Something in the 15"-16" range would be fine, and that is the large majority of the CA/SA available in the hobby (pretty much most, other than Dovii and Umbee). Festae are amazing looking fish when full grown, but it takes awhile for the males to get to the size you're talking about (3 years or more).

the flowerhorn is the best..i mean they grow to be glass banging monsters..they hav the best personality..and i shouldnt hav to tell u abt the color..that is if u buy a high quality one..but again u hav to be careful in choosing tankmates..any fish kept with a full grown male fh is sure to have a doomed existence if it survives..they do grow 12 to 15 inches.

pearsi, bocourti, festae, argentea, fenestratus, breidorhi, red tiger motageunse, just to name a few
synspilum has great color and grow pretty large, trimacs get pretty beefy.
