Large Flower Horn laying on bottom unable to swim right

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I commend you, Malamute, for your efforts, in a situation where 75% ( percentage is my opinion and not debatable ) of aquarists would already be thinking about a replacement fish.

That is fish keeping at its most highest level.that is dedication.

Thank you Miguel.
His eyes only went foggy in the last 2 days. With daily water changes and crystal clear water i dont understand the foggy eyes.

Yesterday I call the Lfs owner with 40 years experience and a higher than though demeanor in regards to fish keeping, but he seems to know his stuff very well. He says "forget medications i have never had success with them and up the Epsom salt dose to 3 tsp per 5 gallons". Also "gradually lower the temp a bit". So I do. Today I come home and this fish is upright and active in his small hospital tank. Now however his eyes aim down and are foggy, like arowana drop eye, but in a flower horn? I will update a pic as soon as I change his water, it got filthy in a day. He must have passed something but I see no large evidence just really dirty water.

Wow very sad, op I can tell you love and care about your fish and your doing the absolute best you can!

I realize the necessity for the hospital tank, but he may be subjected to more stress! Any way you can get a 40b or even a rubber maid pond? Lhs stores have a few cheap options, even pond liner or a bath tub that's cleaned out properly will be better then that 30 gal tote, that jager will heat up w/e you can find.

I agree with VET. That is a pretty small size tank for a fish of that size. I do understand that they dont need as much space in a quarantine/hospital tank, but they still need a decent amount though. I do hope he gets better though. It stinks to lose a fish. To some, they are just fish. But to others... they are as much in the family as their mom. Or, thats at leat how it is with me.

Thank you to all for the advice and comments, i will be looking for larger options. He is acting really good now. Though with white spots and some fuz. Fungus right? If yes pimafix as didysis suggested? I work a 24 tomarrow starting 11 am so it will be sunday if i cant find a larger tank in the morning.

Thats a pic of him healthy. He is bigger and brighter now though when healthy. Also a serious tank upgrade took place and no lime green gravel

Closing hour run to petco and new hospital tank. He is now swiming like there was never a problem. He is however showing white fuzzy spots. Adding pimafix

Awesome recovery! Glad to hear he is better.
Pimafix might help, but honestly for any ectoparasitic disease I would suggest Seachem Paraguard; treats a wide range of external disease amazingly! Goodluck!
