There have been quite a few threads about LMB lately, and quite a bit of debate.
If you get one, remember they can live for a long time, and they can get quite large. Most everybody say's 28-30 inches for large females, but they have been known to get bigger. LMB never stop growing, they just slow down, so the longer you have it, the larger it will get. I've done some digging on the lifespan of these fish, and have not yet come across anything conclusive. I'm planning an article that I hope will be stickied to adress these magnificent creatures, but still digging info.
Get the largest tank you can. For the long term, anything less than 200 will not be adequate, and preferably much larger. These are not overly active fish, until it's feeding time. A wet dry filter, and maybe even a fluidized bed filter would be extremely beneficial, they are messy fish. You can feed whole fish (live or dead) insects, worms, crayfish, shrimp, shelled mussels, and a little beefheart. If your gonna feed feeder fish, I would gut load them with some vegetable matter first. Also, you don't have to buy feeders. Get a minnow trap and stick it in a local pond or creek, you should get plenty of minnows to feed him, and maybe some baby centrarchids. Just check your local regs first. Minnow traps can be gotten at wally world for $12 or so. You can use a rubbermaid container as a holding tank for them, and a cheap internal filter, like the wispers, also at wally world. If you use a can of tuna fish, and poke holes in it, you'll get plenty of minnows, and maybe also a crayfish or too.
Please, post some pics.
