Large mouth bass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 10in Largemouth Bass. It's pretty easy keeping them. I have had mine for almost a year now. My tank size is about 30 gal. I have a bluegill and a warmouth in there with my largemouth. Just make sure you have a top for the tank, a good filter, good tank buddies, a nice looking set-up(doesn't really matter what you put in there as long as he can swim around), and also a big enough tank.

i had a lmb for a year in a 200g. he did fine i had pbass and gar wit him. they all ate tilipia fillet. but recently this summer i let him go in my grandparents pond . they are aggresive . but if u do have tankmates make sure they can hold their own . great fish to keep. and sunfish make great feeers :)

You had it in only a 30 gallon tank???

Would you think that a 55 gallon would be big enough then for a LMB?

me and my friends went to a lake in chino hills and caught 2 6inch large mouth basses. we were worried they wouldn't survive all the way home. luckily they made the 30 minute trip in a cooler! i have them in in a 150gal fish tank that im setting up as a pond tank. had them for 7months and they are doing fine. feed them frozen shrimp and a weekly treat of goldfish or crawdads. they are awesome fish and grow really fast! i say you go for it. good luck with your tank!

tank shouldn't have to be that big, realitively speaking in mfk terms. 200 gallons would be comfortable.
assuming you don't get a bunch of them.

There have been quite a few threads about LMB lately, and quite a bit of debate.
If you get one, remember they can live for a long time, and they can get quite large. Most everybody say's 28-30 inches for large females, but they have been known to get bigger. LMB never stop growing, they just slow down, so the longer you have it, the larger it will get. I've done some digging on the lifespan of these fish, and have not yet come across anything conclusive. I'm planning an article that I hope will be stickied to adress these magnificent creatures, but still digging info.
Get the largest tank you can. For the long term, anything less than 200 will not be adequate, and preferably much larger. These are not overly active fish, until it's feeding time. A wet dry filter, and maybe even a fluidized bed filter would be extremely beneficial, they are messy fish. You can feed whole fish (live or dead) insects, worms, crayfish, shrimp, shelled mussels, and a little beefheart. If your gonna feed feeder fish, I would gut load them with some vegetable matter first. Also, you don't have to buy feeders. Get a minnow trap and stick it in a local pond or creek, you should get plenty of minnows to feed him, and maybe some baby centrarchids. Just check your local regs first. Minnow traps can be gotten at wally world for $12 or so. You can use a rubbermaid container as a holding tank for them, and a cheap internal filter, like the wispers, also at wally world. If you use a can of tuna fish, and poke holes in it, you'll get plenty of minnows, and maybe also a crayfish or too.
Please, post some pics.

You have a 10" bass bass along with two other fish in a 30 gallon... you are in no place to to tell someone they need a "big enough tank" unless that is a typo....

imo i think you might be able to squeeze one into a 180g if it was male, female around 240g. Only problem is i have no clue how you sex them.

i grew about 15 of when they were babies to 5-6 inches and i had em in a 60 breeder and all i can say is within 2 months if not shorter time frame they grew that big...alot of water change and i fed them 3-5 times a day..grew so fast i had to throw them back
