hey all ive been reading a bit more into the dreaded midas/midevil/red devil debate... i have a pretty good idea of what i think a midas looks like through its life, my question is to red devil owners... its agreed that red devil hit 15inch's where as midas top out around 13inch...

can you show me your big genuine wild caught or f1 rapps red devils?
im sure ive never seen my idea of a red devil over 12 inches....???

here is a fish i had from a good lfs as a genuine rd, i considered this a rd it was elongated and its lips were v shaped. second pic as he grew and third when he turned on my midas at 9-10 inch when i had to find him a new home

there are lots of variations even in the wild, even wild cross breeding has been documented so who's to say some of rapps fish arnt cross bred??

midevils are a fish that everyone assumes you fish is unless you bought it from 'rapps' or who ever... it annoys me to say the least...

please as far as all these midevils everywhere??? not many of us breed larger cichlids and a lot that do buy them as babys from the same store and breed the siblings... is there really as many midevils out there as everyone thinks... i for one dont think so...

rant over...

please please clears this up once and for all post only your rd, midas and midevils if you know that is what they are..... rapps fish other top store fish don conkral ect and if you know your fish is a midevil... not because people said it is if you know it was a genuine midas x rd then post....

rant actually over lol!-)

what im saying is once these fish hit 9inch's odd you can tell if its midas rd or midevil... at least in my opinion... debate anyone?

We have all gone through this debate over and over again.

Absent proof of origin/species you have a midevil ( it can llok like a midas, it can look like an rd, it can be what you sense it to be ) but absent a dna test there is no way of knowing.

People in the us, evntually from the uk, germany and holland may have access to pure lines ( even so i doubt the 100% certainty ) but nowhere else.

And, above and beyond, i do not think we should particularly care, because there is no way around it. Species have been mixed beyond redemption. There is no getting back.

I have some Native American (Blackfoot tribe) in my blood from my great, great grandparents. I don't look Native American. Just throwing it out there... These fish have been commercially mass produced for a long time.

Made me think of this, lol. south-park-1513-a-history-channel-thanksgiving-clip01.jpg

But yeah, unless you are certain of the source, always assume that it's a hybrid midevil.
