large red devil pics anyone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here we go. This guys almost 10" and is F1 true devil. Raised him since 2" and had him for 16 months or so. Will be getting him an F1 female from rapps soon so hopefully we'll have some F2 true devils to distribute around in the future.

I have some Native American (Blackfoot tribe) in my blood from my great, great grandparents. I don't look Native American. Just throwing it out there... These fish have been commercially mass produced for a long time.

Those were the worst!!! In the region of Snake River!

You still have some old scalps around??:)

Meh, I have some f1 Midas from rapps on the way to me now. Don't really care that it's f1 true Midas, just wanted a big clunky orange fish in my tank. Maybe I'll breed them maybe I won't. The Midas complex debate is a little silly, although people should really call their Midas or red devil a midevil if they aren't sure of its origins. It's a hybrid, it's not a Midas and its not a red devil, it's both. A midevil has as much Midas as a blood parrot, and you don't see people saying "look at my ugly round bobble headed Midas". There's no need to debate if you just call it what it is, and what it is, is most likely a midevil.

lol... well do you not see where im coming from though, lots of us buy midas as midas from good lfs and people still tell you its a midevil?? this debate isnt about whether you i or him care what we have its about the fact that everone who doesnt have exact proof that their fish came from lake nic or costa rica is told they have a midevil! is the gene pool really that mixed up??? i cant see it myself... most centrals can cross breed but you dont get millions of hybrids of them flying around... people dont say you synspilum is from a proper source so you cant call it that as it could have fenestratus in it! i think because a few people done it and there were a few going around this rumour exploded and people told you who had people tell them who told their friends... you get the idea!

and as i wrote earlier, i read somewhere think it was a scientific paper that rd and midas are breeding in the wild anyway right? so how does rapps know? he aint dna testing all them fish is he!

although i do see where people like anchovie are coming from wanting a nice chunky example which is more likely to be a straight midas than any, others should'nt be scorned for calling there fish a midas or red devil if it seems more that way inclined. its almost like bragging rights because whoevers fish came from rapps or conkle, hell ive even done it!

also most midas stop growing around 13inch, so a midevil (that looks more midas, maybe as much a midas as a rapps fish) could end up being bigger and chunkier and meaner (if thats your thing) than a normal midas considering rd exceed 15inch right?

i just like a good debate so dont take this personally anyone!-0

Not sure where the 15" mark for devils and 13" for Midas came from but that's not an indicator of what you have. Max size has to do with so many more variables than that. Midas and devils max size is negligible and if anything Midas probably usually get bigger than devils but there's also many more true Midas than true devils out there.

good shout fishman, everywhere ive read online rd are stated as larger... and i also believe there arnt many true rd out there. your fish is gorgeous btw, cant wait too see if he/she can hit 15inch, that would be an impressive fish there dude!-)

Midas sure is bulkier.

Again, 9% out there can be Midas or can be RD0's, but we don't know .

I believe no one knows, not even the guys who catch them, bar some evident exceptions.

9%?-)
