The 4 biggest Cichlids monster fish hobbyistes regularly keep (that can grow over 20") are the Emporer (Boulengerochromis microlepis), the Peacock bass (any of the species), the Wolf (Herichthys dovii) and the Umbie (Herichthys umbriferum). These fish truly belong on the MFK website.

Many of you are serious hobbyists who joined this website to learn about monster fish and exchange information. I am sure you get tired of some people who sadly offer nothing by their replies of 1 or 2 words or inside jokes with their friends. With apparently the only reason for replying is to add to their post total.

Also please lets have ONLY MFK members reply.

I would like to know the size of the biggest fish in each category kept by a MFK member. I see so many posts listing sizes people have heard of. Lets find out what MFK members actually HAVE.

Lets go total length tip to tip instead of standard length.

2 catagories

@1. Presently alive and owned by a MFK member (a) what is your biggest of any of these species (any of the 4 listed above). Please don't mention other peoples fish you know of or heard about. ONLY FISH OWNED BY YOU and alive in one of your tanks right now. What size was it when you acquired it? How long have you owned it? What size tank is it in right now?

@2. Previously owned by a MFK member (a) what is your biggest of any of these species that you owned and the maximum size it reached before you sold it or it died in your tank (any of the 4 listed above). Please don't mention other peoples fish you know of or heard about. ONLY FISH OWNED BY YOU at one time. What happened to it? What size was it when you acquired it? How long did you own it? What size tank was it of yours last?

If you have a picture of a large one please post it.

1. i have a 2" umbee. hahahah. seriously that is my largest out of 4 that i just got 3 days ago. they are all in my 90 gallon. nothing too serious....YET!!!

2. i had a 13" male dovii in my 300 that i got at 2" and kept for almost 2 years before i had to move the tank. nothing spectacular but i wont be getting rid of my dominant male umbee and i plan on getting an indoor pond set up when i have to move him to bigger quarters.

cool thread bro. i know there are some people on here with some of these fish so we will see what pops up!!!

Keep us posted with your umbees.

1. I have several smaller peacocks at home right now (1-3")

2. I've kept several 7" plus peacocks in the past (assuming you are refering to African peacocks since it's in the African area).

My current "monster" stock list is as follows:4 C. Temensis 6 inches a piece
1 C. Ocellaris 6 inches
1 S. Jardnin at about 8 inches
1 Brachyplatystoma Juruense at 8 inches
1 Crenicichla Mamaorata at 9 inches
2 Crenicichla sp. Cobra at 3 inches
1 Datnioides microlepis at 4 inches
1 Salminus Maxillosus at 6 inches
Sorry I don't have any pix right now. Hopefully Santa will bring me a new digital camera on Sunday morning. I've been a good boy all year .... Merry Christmas

I currently have two Cichla monoculus at 8" and 9". I've had them for a month now and they have easily grown 2" in that time. Incredible appetites. I'm not sure how Trust can keep his brutes fed.

I just took some pics of them last night, so I'll try to get them posted tonight for everyone to see. I'll post an update on my RTC as well. He has become a mini monster in no time at all!!!

Actually Zoodiver It would be the south American (Cichla). Sorry about this but I was sort of tied up on this topic because 3 of the fish I listed are from the americas and 1 from Africa (rift lakes). I choose to put the thread in this forum because as you know Boulengerochromis microlepis
is the largest cichlid ever scientifically measured.

What I really wanted to find out was which of these 4 species would be the largest raised in hobbyists and in your case zoo tanks. Posibly nobody on this list has your experience with large fish because of your public aquarium profession.

Nice tread!

As of now none of the above :(

Previously -

1- 8'' Ocellaris kept for about eight months, but I ended up selling to a friend for some more Flowerhorn $

6- 2-3'' ocellaris all of which fell victom to ick, do to sellers tank water not mine!

1- 7'' female Dovii, I had this girl for about one year two months got here when she was around 4 inches. Had to sell because I moved out of state. I know the male's are more sawt after, but I tought my female was extremly gorgus! Very crazy hunter. I miss her very much!

I currently have an Emperor about 12" or so.

Everything elce I have right now from this catagory is small, 4" or less but I have them all.

Used to have a Peacock bass 16" to 18" range. I think it was a hybrid because it showed trates of both tem. and ocla. I sold it sadly when I moved.

Used to have a breeding pair of Dovii that were both over 12"

Never had a big umbreferis.....
