Last time with the 75

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright i will rehome the Pearl's and replace them with 1 or 2 eba. I will also try 2 schools bs 1 large school and see what the family prefers. Also I would like cories but I have small gravel as my substrate so I cannot have them. Based on this stocking with the sev and rams too how should I maintain this tank?

Your Sev will probably get too big for the tank over time, I consider 7.5" as a size limit for a cichlid in a 75 gallon tank. Healthy Sevs can sometimes reach 10".
The larger it gets the more frequent and larger the water changes should be, dictated by the rise in the tanks nitrate levels.
For me, any nitrate level over 5 ppm, calls for a water change, (of course some aquarists might find that excessive and settle for 10 or 15 ppm).
But i find with higher nitrates, there is a correlation with HLLE and a few other diseases and symptoms like bloat.

Makes sense, but isnt a 75 a good tank size for sevs? I thought I read that here somewhere. Also will sevs eat black neons?

I just did a 30 percent WC and slightly rescaped the tank. I'm hoping to plant more into the tank, unless the sev says no, but I will try using hardier plants. So far hes left my sword and fake plants alone. Also opinions and suggestions on the tank are welcome. On the side note my current scape has branches laid out on the ground to leave more open. Space Uptop for the sev to swim and more branches on the bottom to break up ram territory. Would this design work better or revert it back to 3 manzanita branches extending from the top of the tank20200319_165533.jpg20200319_165527.jpg20200319_165521.jpg
I also switched to daylight lighting and have a little lamp to use as I spotlight for specific photos

FINWIN FINWIN your thoughts on the parrot?
Also you said jellybean? If you're talking about the colorful parrotfish that are blue, green, etc, then you should know they were tattooed and it is cruelty to do that to a fish. Also I believe the color fades over time.

I love parrots. (currently have 4) They are so variable in temperament but are intelligent, curious and lively. I'm aware of the cruel practice of tatooing (which frankly looks fake, weird and ugly). The 'heart' parrots are the height of cruelty in my mind: plus when the parrots get big and thick that 'cute' heart shape just looks clunky and awkward. I'd like to stamp those dumb symbols on a few morons and see how they like it.

Humans have a weird fixation for reducing living things to decorative toys.

They definitely go through things they shouldn't ie dying and mutilating but they are very good fish hybrid or not. They have tons of personality and color and from all the research I've seen arent usually that aggressive often being listed as tankmates for gbr. Also I feed omega one freshwater flakes, the occasionally rice treat or pieces of dried saltwater fish and am going to get some more food. Any recommendations? I'm currently looking at hikari micro wafer, hikari vibra bites or tetra colorway granules. Of these three which one would you reccommend and also another freeze dried or frozen food.

Oh no, I just did some more research, jellybean parrot(undyed, dying fish is horrible) are blood parrots but instead of reaching8 inches they reach 4 but because they are basically blood parrot x convict they have the temperament of a convict so no on them. And a regular blood parrot may be too much for the tank as I still want to keep it manageable on weekly WC and the occasional extra WC here and there.

Jellybean parrots tend to stay pretty small and don't live as long due to the cruel process. They are as variable as regular parrots in temperament.

Regular parrots you could do 2 (3 max) in a 75 with frequent w/cs and caves/hides/plants. It would just be the parrots though.

LOL you've gotta read some of my threads about my parrots. Two of them have aggression that would make a red devil proud. Three of the four have teeth (one has a fang up top).

Also as of now the tank stocking will be

1 sev
2 german gold rams
4 bolivian rams
12-14 tetras (either as one school or two)

Any suggestions, I am also interesting in adding other small or decent sized fish, maybe even a clown or bn pleco or two or up the number of tetras. No cories because of my substrate. Also thoughts on black neons with sevs?
