Last time with the 75

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also as of now the tank stocking will be

1 sev
2 german gold rams
4 bolivian rams
12-14 tetras (either as one school or two)

Any suggestions, I am also interesting in adding other small or decent sized fish, maybe even a clown or bn pleco or two or up the number of tetras. No cories because of my substrate. Also thoughts on black neons with sevs?

You have a full tank with that list...remember the severum's adult size will be the deciding factor.

Alright, any thoughts on tetras I should use, I'm looking for a schooling fish that will work with the aquascape. How would black neons do with sevs? Also, there seems to be a cookie-cutter guide for 75s and the guide on that suggests 2 severums 1 blue acara 8 giant danio, 5 boesmani rainbows, and 5 banded rainbows how come that suggest around double what I have?

Not sure where you got the 75 cookie cutter stocking guide from but it sounds pretty heavy to me. I would say your stock list of 1 sev, 6 rams, and 12-14 tetras sounds good and I would leave it at that. Although black neons are a bit larger than regular neons they are still torpedo shaped and they will possibly eventually get eaten by the sev. Lemon tetras would look nice or maybe some diamond tetras.

Given how big severums get I wouldn't do two in a 75, mine is around 8 inches and for his activity level which is mid I couldn't imagine anything bigger. He probably will get a bit bigger though so I have an upgrade planned.

Alright that sounds good then. I will look into tetras and decide what I would like after I switch up the aquascape a little.

For the plants the classic indestructible java fern would probably work.
For the tetras I would go for 1 of the round type like columbiams or serape a similar they have less chance of getting munched.
The suggestion of a few cories is goo too, I'd look into it.
Generally the cookie cutter suggested stock lists aren't very good IMO, they seem to pick boring fish randomly based on size or colour, not compatibility.

Might be a little late but the pandemic kind of ruined everything for me, couldn't really go out to get new fish so I'm still stuck with just the 1 sev 3 pearls and 2 bolivians.
Was doing more research and now thinking about either
Firemouth cichlid group instead of Bolivians
Maybe angels
Lowering the amount of tetra group and only keeping one school
Removing the pearls

Any ideas?

Okay I swear this is the last post on this tank, I'm just trying to make sure I have this right. It's a 75 gallon tank, 30 percent weekly waterchanges, and a ph of 7.4m Right now the tank has,

1 severum
4 bolivian rams
2 german gold rams (mother went out and got these because I didnt specify that I needed bolivians)
3 pearl gouramis

I would like to add 1 or 2 small schools of fish.
I am interested in

Lemon tetras
Candy cane tetras
Boesmani Rainbowfish
Hatchetfish

Or a group of 3 pictus cats

I am also willing to replace the pearl gourami trio with a pair of eba

I would replace the pearls with 2 EBA and get 1 pictus and call it good... with that small of a tank that stock will fill out nicely without schooling small fish.

I think pictus cats can eat bolivians no? Also would angels be a better shout than eba? or maybe a single firemouth? Also maybe try gbr instead of bolvian and not add any cichlid?
