Don't think a knock on the head would just kill them. My idiot flagtails slam themselves so hard every once in a while they're out cold, with visible damage to their heads. They come to in a few minutes, though I swear stupider every time.

Possible there is extra chlorammines in your water, but I would think this would be a fast die off from chlorine and you'd get heavy breathing if it was from the ammonia.

I know I'm dealing with literally freezing temperatures outdoors here. Don't know what kind of temp swings your tanks are dealing with.

I'd be cutting open your dead fish. I cut open my one pleco and had a bunch of worms crawling through it's abdominal cavity. I treated the rest of the fish with praziquantel and quit losing fish.
I did cut them open, but didn't find any probable COD. 8F-10F tank water temp swing between day and night

That's actually not a whole lot man...none of my tanks have heaters and we turn out T-stat to about 70 during the day and turn it up when we get home. My tanks propably sees about the same amount of temp swing. I think as long as the changes are gradual they can adapt.

I'd think your other fish would've let go first before the bass or lei (lei can get finicky at times). My lei had dropped from 7ft straight to the tile floor, while slamming against the wall and the back of the tank and the stand on the way down, that was before I use a pvc to pull his ass out from the back of the tank and drag it accross the floor so I can grab him and he survived.

I know you're doing everything you can, wish you luck bro

I sure hope you can figure out what is causing it. Did the aro make it through the night?

Actually it's the other way around. I believe that he just took my bad luck with him. He's the one that was upside down, not me! :grinno: I see a bright future ahead! :headbang2

If you can believe that nonsense then you should also have no problem believing that perhaps they die because they hate their owner and would rather go to fish heaven instead. Hmm...let's see a 16in Azul, a 14in Azul, and a Lei....who's next?

Also, I believe he actually needed to jumped out of the tank in order to sacrifice his life for yours, according to superstition. Well, I guess you are still stick with your bad luck, some sort of impending death possibly (again according to superstition), after all.
