Leaking tank please help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I filled the bottom with vinegar and used a butter knife. How do I get the black plastic frame off
You don't completely take the tank apart.

You just remove all the silicone inside the tank. NOT! the silicone between the pains. After you get out the silicone make sure you thoroughly clean the area and it's dry before applying new silicone.

^ What Jexnell Jexnell said. Don't disassemble the tank, just remove all the internal silicone and reseal. Glass must be 100% dry and completely free of any old silicone, because the new silicone will not adhere to the old. Be very careful when scraping the old stuff off not to get a blade into the seam between panes of glass; you do not want to damage that.

Don't even try to fix it from the outside as your parents suggest; that will absolutely not work.

Agree with Jexnell Jexnell and jjohnwm jjohnwm , just take your time to clean the inside well after removing the interior fillet silicone.

Be aware that once you seal the inside, you will need to wait for 48 hrs and up to possibly 1 week for the silicone to cure properly depending on temperature, humidity and bead thickness.

I’m almost done with the inside silicone. Where it was leaking that entire panel is separated like it was poorly put together

How can I be 100% positive that I got all the silicone? I’ve been scraping it for near an hour or two maybe

Whoa! If the whole panel is pulled loose along the seam, then the re-sealing we have suggested will not be enough. You will indeed need to dismantle and re-assemble that tank. The work you have done so far is not wasted, it was still needed...but you will also need to cut apart all the seams and clean all the glass the same way, then re-apply new silicone and re-assemble.

I thought so. Help me out guys what do I do lol image.jpg

There is no shortcut or quick fix; dismantle the tank by cutting apart all the seams, clean all the glass perfectly on all surfaces and edges in contact with silicone, and carefully reassemble. Should be able to find vids on Youtube.

How will you know when the glass is clean? When it looks perfectly clean and feels perfectly clean, it is. If you can see or feel even tbe slightest trace of silicone on it, it's not and you can not move forward until it is. Sounds like work, huh? It is.
