very nice!

Hey those LED's are sweet!!
I have a couple of questions.
I looked at the fixture you made but couldn't see how you shielded the LED's from condensation.
Do they heat up at all?
Just curious since I would like to eventually build one myself.

hi jslayz,

im from oz too, about how much did it cost you for the set-up. I would be really interested in making myself a similar setup.

Approx $1000AUD to do the 2.5mtr x 0.75mtr x 0.75mtr tank.
Like $800AUD for the drivers, Leds, powersupply and optics.
Approx $200AUD for the aluminium channel, powdercoating, spraypaint, stainless bolts and black neutral cure silicon.

I get absolutely zero condensation due to the free flowing area around the aluminium channel.
My tank has lids too so they get the condensation which assists diffuse the light.
Mine are cool to the touch at all times as I am only running them at half or just under their max power. At setting eight of eight they are screamingly bright but heat up a little.

oh yeah no algae growing yet...??

Hope this helps

OK I was all in for $1000AUD

Here's why:

T5's were gonna cost me $660AUD and were gonna draw minimum of 110W
Plus globes every year $80.

So after 5 years I will have saved $60AUD plus the power savings.

As the leds are good for about (conservatively) 50,000hours running I will get further ahead each year after that.
I anticipate I'll get 13 years out of the setup so by then will be $700 ahead in globes plus the power savings!!

Anyway it's only worth it if you are looking over 5 years lifespan for your lighting or you want a really cool looking light setup.
