LED lighting review

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a customer order one of the new 48" Reef LED strips made from Marineland. Its going on a 120 I think? We plugged it in when he came to pick it up & man it is BRIGHT! I have been selling the Single which is not that great but the doubles work well But this Reef one holy cow it is bright! Now I'm going to put one on my 165 custom bi level display replacing a ESU dble metal halide, with 2x96 watt PC & moon lights. I figure this will cost me a quarter of the electricity so saving a good chunk of change each month.
I also talked to a friend that works for ML & has been testing & using the Reef LED on a full reef with Hard corals etc. for a year & says it works. Save a lot of money not changing bulbs every 10 months on a reef or plant tank?

Has anyone else tryed this light yet?

I finally ordered my marineland LED lights on sunday and should be getting it on monday. I currently have 2 x 36" coralife T5 aqualights on a 225. I was planning to do some type of review or comparison with the T5s and the LEDs. Im am kind of nervous. So far I like the look how the LEDs looked on the tanks that i seen but you never know till the lights are on your own tank. Ill update when i get the lights.

I look forward to seeing them on your tank.

Just so your not disappointed, the T5s are way brighter than the LEDs.

Thx...and yes i am aware that the T5s are way brighter. Very curious to see how its going to look.

I sold all of my cichla and have only 2 loaches in my 225 so im using the one of the aqualights on my 55 gal. Ill probably do a comparison with LEDs and T5s on the 225 and on the 55.

Led lighting rocks...I have been using only leds for over a year.I have great growth and the power bill is less taxing....

I talked to my lfs guy about the led's and he said he had a friend do a study on them. He is an engineer. He did a 1 1/2 year study on them. Granted this was a year or two ago. He found that after about 6 months the led's lost most of their spectrum light. (Think that is what he called it.) Anyone else hear of anything like this?
