Hmm.. I'll probably get either two nice females or a nice looking male...

We have about 100 of these containers at my house, is this a good moist hide?

Yes, any suitable sized rubbermaid container makes a good moist hide. When thier young, you want to keep it misted all the time because they shed so often. But after about a year you really only need to mist it when they look like thier about to shed. They will litteraly turn milky white it will be quite obvious.

So once a day misting of the moist hide for juvies, mist the moist hide when they shed for adults?

Wow, this thread has 7 pages. I really am a gecko noob.

Also has anyone used geckosetc.com? I might buy from there if I can't get to an Expo.

thats what i'm going to do toooo!!! i'm going to house my gecko in a plastic bin with holes drilled in it, to hides (moist hide and dry hide), with a small heat pad for heating. as you can see i've done ALOTE of research on how to keep one healthy but in a cheap setup. :)

Yeah, I've been doing ALOT of research also.

I should be getting my tank this weekend and the gecko(s) next weekend, I have one more question. If I dust the mealworms with calcium, do I need a calcium dish in the tank?

I personally would just keep a calci dish in there with them. I did not dust mine's food, I'm too lazy to read back in the thread...how many are you getting? Tank size? How old are they? Color morph? I loved my old leopard gecko, I got him when I was 5, he somehow escaped a year ago. I'm 14 now, they live quite a while when properly cared for...other than being nocturnal. They are awesome! Handling them is fun too, mine was so tame!

I'm not sure, I might get juvies or I might get a young adult Color morph? not sure, I'm thinking of a jungle mack snow, a super hypo tangerine, or tremper albino. Or maybe a mack snow. There are so many to choose from :) I loved my old leopard gecko, I got him when I was 5, he somehow escaped a year ago. So calci dishes are a matter of preference, you can dust your food or just put a dish in the tank?

Ok, I think I'll just dust the food.

If I put a carrot in the mealworm's container for a day before feeding, will that be enough time to consider the mealworms "gut loaded"?
