Leopard Gecko questions

As far as the heating goes (for your sake, I am certainly no expert) I would use a lamp. I bought a pad for my Snake but I've never used it. Seems like a fire hazard to me. Then again, it's on an unsealed wooden shelf, so...

I would disagree , since a lamp implies light and these geckos are nocturnal , plus theres no real way of controlling the temps with one.

I've always used lamps never used a UTH although I have one. Preferable I would get a 60w red bulb(Im guessing the tank is around 10 gallons?). I say red because unless im mistaken they can't see red so it's like it's completely dark. If your tank is a 20 gallon I would use a 75w which should get the temps to where you want them. But you should be fine. You can use regular incandescent house bulbs aswell and I have had too during some situations just make sure you cut it off at night.

Regardless, as long as the temps are where they need to be it really dosen't all that much matter how you heat the cage. A thermostat is always very helpfull but not 100% nescesary IMO.

as for a thermostat not being needed i would disagree , but sure 99% of the time a heater would be fine , the other 1% u will regret if it happens .

You do want to make sure that you have the proper temperature gradient in your setup so I would recommend picking up a digital heat probe or temp gun.
