As for fish keeping in general I believe the hobby is strong.
As far as MFK dying, I don't think its dying but traffic has slowed down quit a bit.
I believe this is due to other types of social media taking the attention of a lot of the public away from forums.

Mostly Facebook groups I would think. I myself have joined a few over the past couple of months, Really just to see what is out there. They are just not for me. I will always come back to MFK.
These groups have lots of people that are just there to show their tank, get a pat on the back and move on.

Tanks pact to the top with fish. Bad combinations of fish. Extremely terrible advice given on just about every post.

If you speak up about something a lot of the time you get attacked and told, you do your tank let this person have theirs!
To many people concerned with their wants, and not the fishes needs.

Another thing that I hadn't realized is the extent of the proliferation of hybrids.
I knew that hybrids have been getting more and more attention in the hobby over the years but I have truly been stunned at the combinations of fish people are trying to make!

I have joined a few of the Facebook groups as well. They aren't very good. Just imo better members here and info. Lot of wrong info and and bad advice. Not all the time but I'd say more than posted on mfk. There are some really good members in those groups and they are mfk members as well. Some of the poly groups have some really good members. I really don't see the appeal in it compared to a forum where a correct response is immediate, especially Mfk.

Maybe I'm biased toward to mfk.

In my opinion, Facebook is a better medium for sharing pictures and videos due to ease of use. However, forums and MFK are significantly better for asking advice, researching advice, and storing advice. I use both and really I just stare at pics/vids on facebook. Anything meaningful is done via MFK.

I can agree with that. The only problem is the people in those groups that don't come to forums like this one and believe all the bad information being passed.
Just last night I saw a guy answer a stocking question for a 90 that had to many fish in it already and his advice: I like to keep at least 1 fish for every ten gallons of tank.
Not neons not tigerbarbs this was cichlids that easily reach 12 to 14 inches.

The reason tanks like those in the old thread hardly get any praise on here is because almost none of them are shown anymore. There's a difference between a "JDM" tank and one that's just heavily overstocked. People forget the effort and bare $$$ that a tank like this takes way too often.

Exactly.

Oh boy here we go. Just read the thread and enjoy what MFK used to be like and get rid of the negative comments before you get this one closed. Typical new guy with a big mouth behind a computer. Don't be a problem to the site be a solution to making it better.

I don't enjoy seeing fish packed into a glass box like sardines packed into a tin, never have, never will. And I'm one old guy that will never school anyone to keep fish in that manner, and for some of us old guys MFK was never about JDM tanks. Boo-hoo-hoo to all those that miss the good old days, quit pissing and moaning and make a real contribution, instead of dragging up old threads.

This thread isn't a solution to making anything better.

I will be happy to praise a skilled JDM keeper, when I see the same stock in that JDM tank 10 yrs down the road.

I'm disappointed. You've been on this site for a while. And now your throwing insults. If I didn't post this thread, a majority of people on this site would never even think or even know how to view tanks like these. Who knows maybe it will contribute to someone actually keeping monster fish instead of having a fish room packed with 10 gallon tanks that should be posted on aquaria central instead of a site called monsterfishkeepers

This debate has raged for years and this all comes down to your own moral convictions and opinions.
I fall to the side of compassion for the wellbeing of the animals we choose to keep. Whether it be a common goldfish or an arapaima!
To me it's just cruel to pack a tank as full as you can.
Temporarily, maybe. Long term, no way!
