I don't think the initial intent was to accuse anyone of anything other than not being in favor of the way WalMart cares/sells their fish. I believe the idea was to point out the opinion of a fishkeeper concerned with the practices of a retail chain regarding it care/handling/education of the fish/fish related merchandise it carries and to measure the amount of MFK members who share this concern. Perhaps the petition needs to be revised and the plan to boycott the chain may not be an appropriate course of action to succeed in the goal of holding WalMart accountable for its practices regarding the care of animals it sells. Regardless, this thread sparked discussion and so it was not all in vain. IMO

How long did it take you to think up all that random stuff.

SOOO TRUE though

lol, just thinking of going down random aisles in the store

Exactly - sparked by thread #10,345 about how Wal-Mart abuses fish...

I'm all for people providing edits to make it better / more acceptable to more people...just want to stimulate discussion...and hopefully action (instead of thread #10,346 about how Wal-Mart abuses fish)...

I live in a small rural community in northern California. The closest small mall is nearly 2 hours away, and the next closest mall is over 2 hours away in Oregon. WalMart is the biggest store in my area, and I don't even know how we rated having a WalMart. When WM came to town, quite a few small businesses closed their doors, being unable to compete with WM's better pricing. We're not fools--why pay more for the same product just to support a small business that's been ripping off the community for years. I would never consider boycotting WM, because I am not driving 2+ hours just to shop.

I, too, deplore the practice of selling pacu to the public with a sign that pacu grow to 10 inches. I made a post about it on another forum. I am certain that our rescued fish came out of this very tank

All of these Let's Boycott WalMart threads were getting to me, and I decided it was time to take action. Over a month ago, I went and spoke with the manager of the pet section at our WM. He said that he couldn't speak for other stores, but at our store, he could choose what fish were sold. He listened to all I had to say and asked if he could keep the picture that I had put together for him

Our WalMart no longer sells pacu.:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2 I was negligent in not taking action sooner...for over a year I had thought about speaking to the manager. If I had spoken up sooner, one of the Chinese restaurants in town would not have a 29 gallon tank with 6 pacu and 6 oscars in it.

We don't have Mal Mart here in Australia but I am interested in the discusion.
What's the deal??
Are they the McDonalds of LFS?

There are, of course, no alternatives to shopping at Wal-Mart if you're not rich, right?

5 minute drive and prices are right... i could drive 10 min to Kmart but most of there prices are not as good also that wastes a gallon of gas... so a few pacu can suffer so i can eat and have supplies for cheap....
