For the Australian post. I was there a couple years ago in Sydney & Cains. My fiance family is there. The economy seemed to be doing real well & had a lot of nice small businesses. Her family owns businesses. I told them hope a Walmart never sets foot there because your economy will suffer. If small businesses are making good money they spend money. What goes around comes around.
As for Walmart being cheap! Buy cheap get cheap. USA has become a throw away society because of cheap. Our environment is paying for it. Walmart is not all cheap. Thay have people trained to think that. NO business can sell everything cheap because if they did they will not stay in business. Some times you get what you pay for. Cheap is typically a lost leader. Meaning they sell something at cost or close to it or even less to get you in the door. They have a lot of stuff which we always do not need in the first place.
So you walk down the isle of vacuum cleaners there and you look at the prices in your mind one is a real good deal or cheap? But not realizing that the next one up from the cheaper one is more then somewhere else? They play mind games or to trick you into thinking everything is cheap One item will be low then the next will be a bit higher. Sams/Walmart can lose $50,000 a day on candy bars or something else but they will make $100,000 on something else.
Walmart has their own industrial park in China that makes scrubbers to whateve else & workers get a buck a day while they sell the scrubber here for $3ea.
It was awhile back there was a show on I think A&E about the Walmart empire. It was interesting & worth watching. I'm not a big fan of them, but I admit I do get some things like paint because its cheap & made by Sherwin Williams.
As far as the fish dept. They have closed 700 or more & I think more will be closing in the near future. They lose more then make having the live fish. They will not pay some decent to maintain them. I almost landed a service contract with some local stores but they say they can pay some one minum wage to clean them! Plus they said at the time they were getting new systems that take care of themselves! (lol)
I talked to one main supplier while back & they were told to just keep putting fish in the tanks everyweek no matter what even if dead were in the tank. Like they pack the shelves they have the same mind frame about livestock.
I could go own with my vast knowledge....

As for as I know the Walmarts around the St. Louis area have removed all fish livestock.
Have for well over a year. I still despise their ethics, employee wise and community wise.
What happens to all the small businesses and mom and pop stores anywhere in the vacinity?
