just wanted to add to my post earlier.... This is only one LFS, i'm sure with a bit of shopping around you could find cheaper, also i'm quiet new to the hobby unlike members such as steve89 who i'm certain can find cheaper ;)

Here are some other prices for you- Golden clown knife 5" $270.....1 1/2' $795!, Pbass 6" $50, most of your desirable pleco's 2"-5" around the $700-$800 mark! common pleco 3" $15(just got one)

You guys in the USA have it good!

Hey aussienative, where did you get your peacock bass for $50 ?
I just bought 5 for $125 each and considered it a bargain! One ripoff merchant tried to sell them at $400 each (5 inch), and dropped them down to $320 when no one bought them.
Love to get some more if they were only $50
 
50$ is a fair price... i paied 80 for mine at 6-7"

Paying four days wage (if his wage was $117 a day) to buy a fish that only cost you guys 20-50 bucks is not exactly cheap!

By the way, the average wage here is less than $45K US a year.
 
but i bet aussy its cheaper to live...
so your 30k a year will get you alot further then 30k a year here.. correct me if im wrong
