LFS owner tried to pull a fast one on me today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
MY LFS hated me for awile because im sooo picky. I will even ask them to feed the fish to see if its eager to eat and etc. Now i almost always deal with the owners, they actually care about the fish and there reputation. The one owner of the store is actually the one who told me to ask what they were eating and ask an employee to drop some food in to see how they react.. Him and his brother came to my house a while back to help set up my tanks and helped build a stand with me. Later on helped me dig and set up my Koi pond too.Theres not many Mom and Pop stores around run from generation to generation,i am glad to give them as much business as i can...
Buzz N' B's Aquarium and Pet Shop Erie Pa.. Awesome people

I've never had anyone try to pull anything on me. But then again I look like an asian mob boss, esp when i wear a suit and sunglasses. You wouldn't really try and pull shiet on anyone who looks like they could have your family killed with a single phone call :grinno:

When i most recently bought fish, the worker caught them and put them into one of those hard acrylic containers that hang onto the outside of the aquarium, while i was checking out another tank. He walks over to me with the container and ASKS ME "will these fish be ok sir?" :headbang2

I find it very iritating when people at a lfs have numerous dead fish in thier tank, they walk staright past it, didnt even cross thier mind to take it out.

Just a hint: always ask if the tank has a history of ich, velvet, etc. So you can prepare yourself if you buy a healthy fish, but in a sick tank.

that lfs is a ripoff! but so are the ones in my area(all of them!) still can't believe it

i can see what you mean about women not being treated the same as men in lfs and hardware stores

im only 15 (guy) and going into a lfs or hardware store i very rarly get asked if i need help and thats usually by a young employe too and its funny because i know more then all the lfs employees and i have larger tanks then them too (that i bought new and that my parents didnt buy)

half the time when i ask if they have something of a fish they dont even know what it is

The local Petsmart has a bad case of fungus right now. Not a little bit but I'm talking about the fungus being .5" tall or more. I was in there a week ago and it was everywhere and growing on dead fish. Went back Tuesday night and the dead fish are still there and even more fungus now. The thing that blew my mind is I heard one of the workers telling a lady how important it is to keep the tank clean.

Tulsa Aquatics?

funny because I was debating between a cichlid and a peppermint shrimp for my saltwater tank at an LFS nearby and I got the peppermint shrimp.

But it had a huge chunk missing out of its side it looked like a burn wound. I got home and it was dead in a week.

I also bought a couple discus from this place and asked the guy if they were on a seperate system from the unhealthy looking discus on the other side and he said tehy were. They weren't and one had horrible parasites and died pretty fast and I treated my tank and the second one ended up dying on vacation (i noticed white poop a couple days before I left and I honestly wasn't surprised it died).

It sucks when an LFS is like this. Just stop going there and they will go out of business hopefully.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cichlid!! That has got to suck!

Tip for women in LFS or Hardware stores.....take a guy friend with you!

This attracts the associates' attention, and then you can wow their socks off with your mass of knowledge!!

I never have a problem with my local stores, (except the hermit crab tank!!) but I will also call the manager and complain.... I walked around walmart one day for 20 minutes, waiting for an associate....found one, told him that his assistance was needed and the jerkface took off!! I hunted down another associate, and said "I have been waiting over a HALF an HOUR for an associate to come help me! How does your store expect to sell any of these fish in this manner?!" The associate (a woman) Apologized profusely and I got the help I wanted.

If they don't put the fish I want in the plastic container, I make them put it back and get the right one. I'm not taking home a fish that I had not picked!! If they reduse, I'm outta that store!!
