ok i live in michigan few miles north of detroit.. locally every store i go to gives me HORRIBLE advise :( they have put me in fish wars so many times from taking their advise.. sooo am i the only one? i have now learned to research and use this site for any help
 
Most LFS workers are clueless. I actually asked one how did he get a job there knowing so little and being so comfortable giving bad advice. Just think about who works there and take in consideration that some of them don't even own fish.
 
Ya, most employees at LFS's don't know anything about fish...and if they do, they know very little. Research and this site is all you need anyway & it is so much more accurate... :)
 
thanx guys ;) i now feel like smacking them with a fish they killed.. i didnt even give them my con fry in dear they would give them away to a bunch of children :/ so i went on craigslist instead.. so why on earth would they have some total moron who knows nothing about fish, workin in the fish store? kinda doesnt make sense.. what do they base their hiring on? to be honest i think they all have bad snotty attitudes, and need to be taught a lesson teehee
 
I work at a pet store and my boss and the other employees are tell people there they can keep a 2" suncatfish in with a 10" suncatfish... :screwy:

why cant they give the right advise? dont they love fish?
 
For every piece of bad advice a LFS worker gives there are one hundred times someone ignores a good piece of advice.

It gets kind of old telling people that at 1.5" a bunch of new world cichlids will get along fine but when the red devil is 10" and the convict is 3" they may have a problem.

Nobody wants to hear the word "no" when they ask a compatability question and often times they will argue with you.

I got lucky then I guess...my lfs is owned by someone who has had it for 25 years. All of his workers are fish enthusiasts...one kid did a few semesters at a local college majoring in fisheries...And they have no problem talking for 30 minutes about fish as long as they arent busy...
