Lifeguard FIRED for Rescuing Troubled Swimmer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All I know is, if I go swimming, it's gonna be with this kid.

Maybe you should re read what I said, THE company owner said his post was not left unattended. I didn't say it, the media didn't, the owner. You know better then the owner about his staffing? You can't be serious about going to get ice cream is the same as someone running up in a panic saying someone is drowning. Don't give me policy either, no one gets fired for being late once and that's against policy too.

The owner also said he disagreed with how it was handled, with the kid being fired. So instead of bashing some dude on Mfk, listen to what the man in charge said

The kid said yesterday he's not taking the offer to go back. He only worked their for 4 months and will just focus on school.

LOL I said all that?! Holster those things, buddy.

I didn't say that I knew better than the owner. I merely pointed out something it seemed you overlooked.

I didn't say that getting ice cream is the same as saving someone from drowning. I said that they are probably firm on their "policy" and speculated on the progression of what could happen if they were to bend on their "policy".

But if thats the game you want to play... You can't be serious about being late to work is the same as leaving a bunch of people that you are being paid to protect. Stop for a second and think about what the words LIFE and GUARD mean. It's a huge responsibility, and not to be taken lightly. This guy isn't serving coffee to old ladies. He is trusted with others safety. it is understandable why the rules aren't bendable. Like any job where danger is a factor, rules are strict. Obviously, none of this was a surprise to him. He knew he was doing what he wasn't supposed to, and he knew the consequences. I commend him for putting someone's life over his own job, but he knew what was going to happen. I don't see where the confusion is.

I'm not "bashing" anyone. I don't know where you got that from. It's ok to disagree. We wouldn't get anywhere if everyone just said "you're right" all the time.

Trust me, I know. I got sick of everyone agreeing on this thread and just choose to argue for this side lol. I don't think I fabricated anything though except maybe the bashing comment. Everything else I feel you implied

Ps, kid was making 8.50. Clearly a joke job with that wage.

Damn if you do and damn if you don't . How could anybody in that situation, especially a lifeguard not do anything because it's not his area. Imagine If that person died, and you have to live with that guilt because it was 1 feet away,

I was married and making that for a while. That dont make it a "joke job". They are paid that because in reality, he is easily replaceable. Doesnt make his job any less important.

We can make the argument that all jobs are important. I just refuse to think that a job that hires 18 - 21 year old making practically minimum wage is a top notch military precision danger presented can't use common sense to bend the rules job like dude above was trying to describe it as.

They're kids who can swim given some basic training and expected to react and remain calm. Not seasoned retired coast guards

You cant bend the rules without risking a lawsuit.

Should be demanding answers from swimmer needing rescue. Rescued swimmer should marry any daughter or sister to lifeguard, then set up trust fund for providing all life guard's future. If life guard not want marrying daughter or sister, but prefer rescued swimmer, then rescued swmmer must keep lifeguard for all time as houseboy.
