Keep in mind hydro static pressure works off of the height of the water column, not the length or width, weird huh.. so a 44" high tank will need a very thick piece of acrylic.

I see you said you will only go 30" you would need minimum 1/2" with good bracing, I'd suggest 3/4" at that height.
 
K Keightley Are you a renter? Assuming you are, I wouldn't mess around with non-standard methods of tank construction. If it catastrophically fails, I'd be worried about your legal position should the landlord come after you. I'd do glass or acrylic.

If you own the place, do whatever you like :)
