while i understand you guys being irritated annoyed with it but then again theres alotta people that will just attack some1 if they messed up or w.e while yes you are right but attacking some 1 wont help their fish but probably drive them away from the site

Agreed, a positive approach is always the best!

What happened to at least trying to spell things out and put in punctuation. I may not always have proper grammar, but it's hard to not see spelling errors when they show up in red. And how much longer does it take to type someone vs. some1, it just comes across as lazy.

My biggest concern with younger people on here comes when I need good solid advice. Now, I dont doubt that a lot of the younger people here (under the age of 18-19) know their stuff when it comes to fish, but when I need advice in regards to the thousands of dollars in livestock and equipment I own Id like to know the information is coming from someone with lots of experience.

I wouldn't let a 17 year old work on my car, operate on my body or handle my finances and I feel the same for my hobbys. Again, I'm not claiming that the young people on this forum are stupid or that they aren't knowledgeable, but I've read some poor advice and seen some poor decisions made by people that in a few years would never think of doing.

I came here for guidance, ideas, support and knowledge and personally I feel a lot better when it comes from someone that's walked the walk.

Note: I do understand that age and experience are not always linked.

Well said, and i agree. This forum is for advice, knowledge, and sharing experience.

sorry but i just type as i want to like when i text especially when i get into the post but still i feel like if the (mature) subscribers would remain mature we could get more accomplished instead of burning the kid up with crazy amounts of you need to give the fish away right away whoo whoo tell em sell it lets face it most of us at least from my experience found this site after googling a fish and then coming across this site

Do what you can for a fish, but i think mfk informs people of fish they should purchase. They set a boundary for people, that really do need it in most cases. If you can care for the fish great, if you can't mfk will let you know. You wont make another uneducated decision again... If you do, you will take a little flame but they are always there for the best interest of the fish, which is why you should be in the hobby in the first place. You appreciate fish, and them living a good life.

If your doing something wrong with good intentions and you ask your questions respectably chances are you will not get flamed.
The problems I have with these "kids" are the ones that believe they know everything about fish keeping because they have 10 aggressive fish in a 75gal and because its working for them for 2 months it will work for everybody.
Also with the redundancy of useless questions. Have people not yet grasped the vast amounts of knowledge on google and the search tool here on MFK.
The problems are not from "kids" they are from immature fish keepers who are unwilling to do the research themselves OR to argue until they get their facts straight. They dont ask questions, they just try to prove themselves right, while learning in the process but it gets under peoples skin. On the other hand some kids here suprise me with thier knowledge at only 13 years old.
Dont get my wrong, I love an occasional good debate, and if its with one of these "kids", well thats in the bag, no need to work yourself up.

i don't think people should be judged by their age, i'm just saying. it should be more like their experience level. and post count shouldn't have much of an effect on your thoughts about them either.

post count is no where in this thread, and I am highly against judging from that. Red letters are respected around here, maybe a little more correction from mods would help quiet those who want to troll and go against sound information. Age is just a number as well, but more experience is possible with more years.

True, ignorance is terrible. Usually imature goes along with that. This little kid named aj on this forum is 14 and is amazingly knowledgeable. Hell he's even my Facebook friend and I can't say he's said one thing that bothers me. There are many young keepers that are amazing and take advice and criticism very well. They also understand the basic knowledge of google, which is always a plus!

Quiet people for giving out advice that goes "against sound information"? That'd defeat the whole point of having a discussion in a forum. It's up to the person who's seeking advice to choose who they believe and research to make sure what's being told is accurate.

Sometimes we're a lil too passionate and get worked up over what really amounts to nothing. I can't say i visit every section but for every bit of misinformation there seems to be 3-4 people giving correct information so i doubt "trolls" are as out of control as you guys are making them seem
