Little earthquake, little leak.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OMG, forget what I said. I took a look at the hi-rez pix & it looks like your stand is splitting apart and collapsing.
Is this just an illusion? It looks bad in the photo.
Anything you do to the tank may be useless, if you have any more damage there.

Is this a shadow or a 1/4" gap with shims?

That's just an uneven space, it was shimmed near by to beef up the ends where the patio tapers and isn't quite level, so there's a bit of sag.
Although I'm sure one day during big quake........

After the landlord noticed some damage exaggerated by the earth qauake, on a beam situated above the tank and entrance to the yard.
fullsizeoutput_1873.jpeg
the landlord has decided to fix the cement beam, which meant tearing down the tank, and finally fixing the earth quake leaks the right way.
fullsizeoutput_187c.jpeg
The fish, shrimp, and plants have all been divided into half dozen barrels and buckets.

now the tank has been emptied, and hopefully pulled away from the line of fire (falling concrete), its been an almost 2 day project.

Worst part is our De-Sal plant has been down for a couple week, we are being rationed water, so flushing toilets with sea water, and no water changes, so I had to save old water just to conserve.
Maybe in the end, the tank will get more sun throughout.

Good opportunity to shore up that leak as well.

The availability of unlimited freshwater is something I pretty much take for granted even though we live in the desert. Except for 150 years of irrigation there would be nothing green here.

But we do have some water rationing as far as watering lawns.

But I never considered what it would be like to live on an island where they had to make freshwater 24/7.

The local islanders often say fresh water is more valuable than gold here.
There are a couple wells we carry jugs to, and use that water for drinking and cooking, but even with a permanent population of only 500, the wells cones of depression drop quickly, if there isn't enough rain to replenish.
A daily snorkel is our version of a bath, and the parade of people getting sea water for flushing toilets, is continuous.
The tank is to the lower right, under cushions and behind a barrier, life in a sort-a Margaritaville.

Tank has been carefully re-sealed, and now at 2/3 full, fish in, and even in the hot sun, so far no leakage.
Of course the last 3rd is the most important, creating the most outward pressure.

I have one front to back clamp to replace the broken brace. And will get another on the mainland Wed. to replace the other broken brace.
But with the water plant still down, unless we get a major rain, it may be awhile to get it filled.
I'm amazed there were only 2 casualness far caused by the ordeal, the late shrimp, and the Awaous goby.

Great to hear that you resealed and bracing the 180.

Another casualty of the repair, was the old pump, the impeller shaft ended up in pieces.
So it was time to bring out the one I brought from the states, an either 1800GPH, or 2400 Laguna.
Figured if I used one one outflow line the flow would be too intense for the tank, so a manifold was constructed to spread the flow more evenly across the width of the tank, thus, less intense.
So after a few days of intense rain, enough water was collected to fill the tank, and the pump was fired up.

The sumps have sat stagnant for about 10 days, with the tank only running on a small aerator, no filtration, so after turning on the pump, the water is brown with barely an inch or 2 of visablilty. Should settle in a couple days or so.
