Little kids keep Monster fish and lizards?

Guys, look. I did not mean to upset anybody. I made this thread after watching a few youtube videos that upset me. One where this autistic kid was keeping a 4 foot tegu in a 3 foot cage, one where this annoying brat thinks he is a fish "expert" and owns a breeding "facility" but he makes a video showing how to setup a tank and then pits a catfish directly in after adding UNCYCLED water from his sink, and one where this know it all kid made oscar care video and said oscars are fine in a 20 long for life but when i said he was wrong he started telling me "yo mama jokes" yep. Only kids tell them... It was kinda funny but still annoying he was trying to tell OTHER PEOPLE how to incorrectly keep oscars... What if somebody actually followed his advice?

It was just a enraged moment inpulse kinda thing that i made this and did not mean it...

(BTW i KNOW you want links to the vids i mentioned above but i am not gonna tell you guys cause they are just kids and knowing how much of the people on this site are rude and ignorant the kids will get spammed by forum members saying rude things and NOBODY deserves that...)

I seen a kid walk out with 5 baby RTCs before and i asked him how big his tank was and he said "i dont know it fits on my desk..." AND THE MOM AND KID WERE TALKING TO THE GUY FOR 30 MINUTES SURELY THEY TOLD HIM TANKSIZE! If they did not the man should have asked what size tank! I wanted to tell the kid to return them but just let it slide.

You are 100% correct... My view HAS changed! I have NEVER seen a LFS that actually asks for PROOF water test etc. You are lucky! Most lfs would FIRE you if you stopped a sale to ask about tank size LOL!

Yep! But a parent shouldn't got to "baby" a 14 year old! It should be the 14 year olds choice but the store should check if he is properly equipped for the species...

No offense but if a kid on YouTube making videos is getting you that heated then you are acting just like a child. People are going to buy animals and not keep them properly, you can help people understand what's ok and what's not but threads like this and getting in arguments doesn't help, all you can do is offer your advice in a friendly manner and hope the person follows it. Making threads like this just makes you look like a child. (You can't save them all)

Oh boy I know somebody like that. That would be terrible for them to open their own herp shop!

FF, I think people would be nicer if you had linked to the specific YouTube videos you saw to make it known it was stuff like that making you mad, because stuff like that makes us all mad on here. Kids will be kids. That's all that really should be said on this matter. Some care more then others. Also I've always noticed (at least in my family, other then myself) young girls keep better care of their pets. Maybe its a maternal thing, but I NEVER saw poop build up in my any of my young girl relations tanks of any kind, gerbil, hamster, betta, iguana whatever they happened to have.

Then there's my sister, who still lives at home at 24, w/ me across the hall all into fish, keeps 2 betta and a gold fish in a ONE gallon tank w/o air pump or filtration.... ugh. Its a constant bickering match whenever its brought up, she just says well Will (my name), they've been fine for a couple months now. Then I try to say no they aren't because they're always gasping for air, even eating bubbles. And a ball python in a 55 ga tank (my old fish tank) and I had to buy her a mister because she never misted her snake, resulting in clouded eyes for a while (I didn't realize she wasn't doing it until she had it for a month). Only after she cleared up and looked back to normal did my sister actually thank me.

I know what you are saying about girls and their pets... Especially the "clean-freak" kinda girls. If they find 2 peices of poop in the hamster cage they literally drop everything to clean it!

And that is of course IF the child takes care of it and it does not die within 1 year...

It is just really annoying!

IMO there should be LAWS against children under a certain age so that they can NOT PURCHASE fish or reptiles... People underestimate fish or reptiles as "disposable" pers therefore there are no strict laws on who can buy reptiles or fish (some laws on reptiles but any kid can just walk into petsmart and buy pacu!!!)

And stores like petsmart should not sell large reptiles or fish and anywhere that DOES sell large fish should PROPERLY inform you and get details or not sell the animals... Of course there will ALWAYS be SOME stores that are only in it for money but there should at least be more strict laws against minors...

WTF! This makes absolute no sense you have no idea what these parents teach their kids or if they have the means to properly keep these animals. When I was 10 I had a zoo including 1 ball python, 4 iguanas, 9 cats, a parrot , 2 turtles, and 100+ fish. Whenever I got a new pet my dad would make me sit I front of the computer and read what requirements are needed to keep them. Witch I still do to this day so I completely disagree we don't need any more stupid laws controlling what we do. Besides if that's the case it should be with all animals dogs and cats included because there are more dogs and cats in shelters then anything else.

...my first fish was a silver arowana in a 75 gallon tank... i was 8 back then... my uncle was a marine biologist. didnt tell me anything about taking care of fish... in the end i ended up going to the library reading about fish keeping... Im not sure if this anger is from jealousy... but some of us do care... I kept that arowana for 6 years until it died from something unknown to me at the time. and i made sure i did everything right. it was like my best friend... but i was one of those kids?
