I recently posted that exact link in another post.
However this particular easy going well fed gator in yrs before I moved here has never left immediate canal area.

If he did than nowhere to hide as its all mowed grass or parking lots.
Again in their territory they will kill you and that attack took place in bushy ,concealed lake shore.

I am from the great NY .Long island to be exact . Moved here 1.5 yrs ago .
Dont agree with many of these backward kill type policies.

After 1.5 years gators are still a novelty, live there 20 more years and you will see what a big gator can do. You may change your mind, or you may move, one way or the other removing big gators from inhabited areas is for the greater good.

In Sanibel there is no "concealed lake shore" just golf courses, that gator took out a lady.

Sanibel has lots private homes which border lake, water that is where attack took place.
The lady was a landscaper working right near shore in havy bushy area . Granted gator went right on land and pulled her in but he had lots of cover.

They have showed exact area on tv few times . Heavy growth of plants, etc in area she was working in by shore.

Yes I do plan to return to NY within a year or two . Once I move up one more position in co than moving it to NY as love the nature just great but overall south just not for me.

The gators will be sorry to see you go.

You ever been to Sanibel or just seen it on TV?

I've seen several shows with Todd Hardwick. He owns pesky critters in south Florida. He said the reason gators are killed over 6' is that if they are released into the wild they will return to the same area they were caputured from. Some king of homing instict or something.

No have never been there . I wonder if you have . I know you have lived in Fl for 20 yrs which means nothing other than you lived here for 20 yrs.
I lived in NY for 28 yrs . So what ? No expert on NY .

The news actually showed area where attack took place and National Geographic sometimes shows the documentary on it and they to show exact spot.

There was so much shrubbery, etc in area that when she screamed for help the guy working with her had to look for her as she was hidden by all the bush, etc.

She was a landscaper trimming, removing bushs not mowing a golf course .
Do a little research about area she was attacked in.
It was private garden that sloped into lake full of foilage that masked much of the lake area.
It was not a neatly mowed grass area . Far from it.

I fished Sanibel, Blind Pass, Captiva island and caught more snook in a night than you will ever see.

Go back to New york and leave Florida to the real folks. Get your promotion and go away, make yourself happy and the natives as well.

Is the range of gators growing fast or are they simply seen more because more houses, etc are being built in areas where they are found?

They are simply re-populating in their historical range where they have been absent for years!
