Why are so many people always eager to contribute their two centavos and still end up stoking the flames?

Until the aro mods come here, the rest of us will simply have to deal with those who continue to contribute to the flamefest.

good. If you were only a global mod...

Lol, I'm sure he's one of those "I am going to build a tank for it in the next __ months" people. :grinno:

And I wonder what his plans are for the Cichla in the other 180g and the Hoplias malabaricus that's in the 55g?

7x3x2 for the aro's. The rays have been sold.
8x3x2 for the cichla but I probably won't keep all six. Just four I think.
4x2x2 for the wolf.

All glass because it's cheaper. I can get all three tanks for £1250 so what's the problem buddy. All my tanks are plenty big enough for my fish at their current sizes.

I've seen comments on this thread suggesting that 4x2x2 is okay for an arowana for life. It's not at all. Maybe for a 12-14" arowana but then you have to go bigger.

The flames had actually come to a stop and everyone realized that bigger tanks were of course always better. We joked around a bit even just to show that although we all had different ideas, we could still poke a little fun with each other. It was a sort of "agree to disagree" ending. But someone decided to ignore all the work we had 20 pages earlier and dump a steaming hot one right back into the works.

So you're going to tell me what I wrote, something that I personally processed through my brain isn't what I had written it to be. Ok. So not only do you know how to raise fish better than me, now you even know me better than myself! Look Brian, can I call you that? Let's just agree that we disagree. To all those people out there who have tanks smaller than what is standard for your fish, it's really simple. Don't tell other people. If you can go and buy a bigger tank, please do. If not, then don't speak about it. I have a 6.5 inch black arowana in a 180 and I have a 90x30x18 custom sometime in my future. Please Brian, can you tell me if I'm steering in the right direction? You must know, since I sure as heck don't.

Please oh please, show me where I would have ever said that raising an 6.5" aro in a 180g tank would not be a good idea. Your lack of any kind of logical argument is horrid.

This is my belief and recommendation, I know this will be hard for you to understand. An Arowana should be kept in a tank that has a length at least 3 x it's own length. The width/depth of the tank should be at least equal to the arowana's length.

So your 180g(assuming 6x2x2') will be an adequate sized tank for your arowana up to 24", maybe even a couple inches longer.

There's a period between sentences, so my statement of a 6.5 inch in a 180 is the start of a new thought. Next time should I start a new paragraph so it takes you away from thinking that it's related to what I said before? So let me say it again only this time I spell it out. What I meant was... I currently have a 6.5 inch BA in a 180 and I plan to make my own custom tank with 90 inch length, 30 inch width and 18 inch height. It totals at about 210 gallons which is nowhere near the rec 360, but the footprints seem to work. So what do you think? I was asking more or less for your approval. Not start another fight. While you think I jump around a lot on what you say, you do the same thing to me as well. You're always telling me how I'm naive, horrid, illogical. Something more or less to do with my level of intelligence. As much as I argue with you, I've hardly, if at all insulted you in any shape or form.

:duh: that's what a paragraph is designed to do, that which a period is not.

Why go with such a shallow tank?

I was thinking since Arowanas don't bother much with depth as they do with length and width, it'd save me some water weight. Most of the floors here are built with wooden frames and too much water is just not good. If I go too big, I'd have to place it in the basement and that really defeats the purpose of a show tank. I'm not sure even the best quality wood floors can handle anything more than a 250 gallon. Floors could probably hold more weight than what a 250 gallon weighs, but that's only if it's spread out evenly. Fish tanks aren't very "spread" if you know what I mean. It's like putting a small car on a small part of your floor. The wood will warp over time and maybe even break. So I'm trying to shave off those gallons while still maintaining something that the arowana can live in comfortably. And it'd be reallllllllly expensive to remodel the house and make concrete floors.

My arowana use the upper 18" of the tank they are in. So by limiting the height of your tank you will create just one swimming level. This will be fine but limits the number of fish and decor you can keep in the tank.
