I would think a 180 could do. But u have to remember these things commonly outlive humans and get really big. From year 1-4 you can expect about a 12" growth. After that expect a couple inches a year. Great pets. But dangerous to keep because as soon as they are big enough, everything within 2 feet of it is food. Lol including you

A 55 can easily house a snapper to about 10" I will move him at about that size. I have A LOT of time until he reaches that size. So no worries yet. I'm gonna go do some snapper research online in a minute. I might look into making a couple hundred gallon plywood tank and get a big turtle tank going. I'd rather start my plywood experiences with smaller tanks rather than going straight into a 500+ gallon tank. Although I'm gonna have to plan it all out. Not sure of this yet so don't start complaining about my inexperience.

Once again, growth rates are variable so your comment means squat to me.
If you cares about your oscars and other cichlids then let's focus on them and save $$ to buy bigger tank. Let the snapper turtle go it's best for everyone.
I'm not letting the snapping turtle go. I will continue to grow It Out and raise it. I will sell it before I let it go back to my pond. If I do sell it, the money will go to a new tank. I was thinking of collecting some hatchlings and selling them towards a new tank. I can house this snapper perfectly for the time being. When it reaches the size to outgrow my tank I will have already gotten a 200+ gallon tank. Or set up a pond. By next year I will have a large pond or tank for the snapper. But he will be no larger than 5" so I don't know why you are so worried.
