ive raised my aro from a 2" yolk sac having baby , hes never even looked crosseyed at another fish , he wont even eat the feeders i put in for my bass , very gentle

What do you consider big? Some species of silver dollars get pretty big (15"+ i think), they're peaceful toward smaller fish (at least my common silver dollars and red hook silver dollars are), and you could have a small school of them. They are active swimmers so would be neat to watch in a pond i'd imagine.

You could always try the Oxydoras niger, one of the well known gentle giants.

That's what I would recommend, mine is over a foot long but won't hurt a tetra!

I think yours is an exception to the rule, most arowanas are very predatory.

I've raised a couple, and while they wouldn't bother anything too big to eat, they have pretty darned big mouths!

Wow, lots of awesome ideas guys. I have another 5 months here to contemplate stocking and design the tank. Unfortunately my wife dislikes arowanna ( she thinks they look like snakes) so they are out of the picture. Quite honestly the cost of a 4x8 piece of acryllic combined with all these great ideas is making me contemplate going larger! If im shelling out almost 2 grand for a window might as well go real monster!

go big or go home ;)

you know you want to

what about a MBU Puffer??? with a tank that size its sure to get to be a monster, plus it most probably won't kill any of your tank mates???

I would not consider mbus in general to be even close to passive.
