looking for an interesting oddball fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Isn't that weird how the polys can do that? It seems that whenever I'm feeding the butterfly fish a cricket in front of anybody (to show them how big the butterfly's mouth is), one of the polys come up and snatch it from the top of the tank.:irked:

I'll put up some pics I just took
I moved around one of my tiger lotus
the one I had in my tank turned into a bush of about like 3 or 4 baby lotus
so I moved them around.
so the waters a tad cloudy from dirt sand and the like.
the following three go from left to right in my tank

my butterfly food ( a bunch or wild crickets and grasshoppers in a two litter with grass and water etc) are making a ton of noise... its nice at times and at times its a reminder to feed them to my fish to shut them up maybe a bad strategy at survival?
for all I know darwin is turning in his grave
I kind of like it being a southern bred country boy

That is a pretty cool tank! I love the lighting on it.
I've got some Blood parrots too, but mine are only an inch (or so) long and haven't gotten their adult colors yet. They're awesome little fish though. Very active and they're starting to exhibit the cichlid behavior that I love.
So, have you tried hand feeding the butterfly yet?:naughty:

yeah no luck he just freaks out..
ha the other day the butterfly fish hit a cricket to check it out.. and my senegal swam up and ate it right as the butterfly went for it.

I've gotta figure out how to get the fish to eat from my hand
the senegal will but it eats everything and anything
my aflrican black or what not will come an check out my hand when I move stuff.
but no eating yet
ha

the lighting is stock lighting ha
BUT I JUST BUILT MY OWN LUNAR LIGHT!!!!

That is awesome!
I haven't tried feeding my polys yet. It's kinda hard when the tank is almost as tall as you are! I think I might try hand feeding them soon though...

how do you get a butterfly to the point it realizes you give the food and such

Congrats! Like I said before, keep an eye on your rams. When the bichirs get a certain size, the rams no longer look like tankmates... they look like lunch!
I got the last of my butterflies about a month and a half ago and only 3 of them will take food from my fingers... the biggest three! The other 2 males steer clear unless there is no hand in sight. I think it really depends on the fish.
Oh, and do you know if you have males or females? If you post pics, I could probably tell you.
