those sound mostly for show... a 38, a 40, and a 45 are all alot of gun for anyone. He said his wife is 5' and a hundred pounds...

Just starting out you should stick to a 25 auto or a .380 auto, both are alot safer. And they wont scare her shooting them.

If you wanna be reckless take one of the hawn-yocks word above me lol. but i definately wouldnt go over a 38 snub.

I myself carry a 357 snub, and a 10 mm

LOL whats a hawn yock???? must be a hillbilly kansas thing. :D

My wife's 504 100 pounds and handles her gun just fine.

Like I said there are alot of arguments about guns, you know your wife, get what u think is appropriate for her. You can also try to find a gun range that is connected to a gun store that will let you fire different guns with her, to see which one she is more confident with. Like I said before she doesn't have to be super confident with the gun right away. It can take time. you don't learn algebra your first day of kindergarten. Unless you live in kansas. I hear they're special up yonder. j/k.

taking her to a range and trying some out is a great idea.

and i was saying to learn how to shoot a 22 is a great start. not one to carry. But my vote is still the 25 auto or the .380 auto. Shoots faster and easier than a revolver. But in regard to the couple above post. All semi- autos are going to jump more than a revolver.. As for your wife disliking the kick of the ultra light 38. Thats becuase it's ultra light. and the 45 would kick more but its way fricken heavier. The heavier the gun, less the kick. As for carrying a 45 or 40 vs a 38 or smaller? the 38 or smaller all day long. You can get on your target alot faster with a lighter gun. I cant imagine many women wainting to cary a 45 in their purse. And as for accuracy with these little handguns lol. theyre made to defend 15 feet away not shoot a deer at a 150 yards. And as for knock down power, you can knock down anyone, any size, with any caliber with the right placement. ;) Which is why we go to the range.

Don't go over a 38 snub.

i was born in kansas so how does that work? i are good at math stuffs.:grinno:

i don't know of any range/stores around here in MN. one thing i am sure of is that if you pick up a gun(no matter a handgun, shotgun, or rife) if it doesn't feel right at the start it never will. i have .22 revolvers and .22 semi-autos at my disposal for her to learn on, but i am looking for a "hit'em hard" with light recoil for her to be serious with. i'll give her a glock to hold and see how it fits aswell. i am also tring to keep the price down, some were around $500-600 or less, since i will be spending $1300+- on my s&w 460. i am only a school bus driver, with lots of fish after all.

I hear ya man.

your off to a good start. If you want something thats gonna thud. that 38 snub will do the trick. Those glocks are great guns, tho still pretty heavy.

Where in kansas?

Let me know how you like that S&W 460 when you get it. Iv'e been tossing the idea around of getting one of those myself.

i'll let you know when i get the .460. i got some saving to do. i was looking at the glock 21. i may have to get one for myself or one similar if i can find one in lfthanded eject.

Guess I am One of those "hawn yock" - I suppose? Not sure why we calling each other names. I thought we were all trying to help?

I agree a 38 snub is a great carry starter gun. With Hallow points in a heavy SS model they are not bad to shoot and pack a nice hit. Also can get them easy for $300 + ish

However you can get a Glock most places around here for $525 to $550 and they make compact slim frame versions.

Let her shoot a few, hold a few, and go from there I guess. IMO - more knock down is better!

Sorry if my post is offensive - not sure why It would be But sorry none the less.

I don't believe a lighter pistol will get you on target fast enough to make a difference. IMO, 45acp is a great carry caliber. I don't have any problems with the felt recoil. I have a good friend who's wife will shoot anything under the sun. she weighs all of 90-100lbs. She's only been shooting all of 2-3 years.

With a proper grip, stance, and trigger time..one will learn how to handle the felt recoil of some large loads/calibers...IMO

Good info.

But imo the majority of women wouldnt want to lugg around a 45 lol. thats why i put down the calibers i did. But sbuse already stated he's thinking about the glock 21 i believe.

But i do absolutely, 100 percent think that gun weight has alot to do with how fast a person can get on a target, that and barrel length. but were not talking about long range target shooting here. It's self defense and most people when forced to protect themselves usually only have to shoot 15 feet or less.

Thats awesome that your friends wife jumped into shooting like that! lol but again, just starting out its safer for everyone to start with a relatively small round.

like your quote by the way. steveperry

and im sorry arkangel is i hurt your feelings, hawn yock is just a funny name my grandad used to call people when they were being silly. It was a joke which is why i put the "LOL" after it. Forgive me and i hope you dont take it seriously, i dont even know what it means. Talking about guns just reminded me of my grandad
