Looking for someone to review my indoor pond filter.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well.........

Well thats done!

Right now it's 4:39 in the morning, I never did get to sleep yet.
However it seems that my filter is up and running very nicely.
It's -39 below zero outside....

It's a good night to be inside.

Im goint to sit down, crack open a beer, and see how I like my new Pond Filter....

Ok I have been running the new filter in my filled indoor pond now for about 12 hours.
I do have a concern that will need to be looked into.

In this design, water returns to the pond in a 1" drain pipe thats located about 3 or 4 inches above the bottom of the filter barrel. (See last photo above)

As the water enters this 1" drain pipe it seems to also drag some air trapped with it as it goes.
This air tends to burp every few seconds.

I tried to lower the end of the drain pipe down into the pond but it burps and burps, and burps...

I need ideas on how to get rid of this "burp"????

sorry can't be of any help to your question. I need a filter that size for my 75! looks great.

I have another question...

I have not done a 'search" yet of this forum on the topic of [Indoor Pond Gravel]
Back when my Koi were in my 140 gal tank they would spend all day digging in the gravel looking for stray foods.

Now they dont get to do that because I dont have any gravel in my indoor pond.
The reason i have not added gravel is that lots of people say that it's just a cause of trouble and mess.

It is true, gravel and Koi tend to be a mess.
The Koi do tend to root around in the gravel like pigs.
It would be more easy to keep a nice clean pond if I dont add gravel.

But I keep thinking that looking in the gravel is something thats natural for Koi to want to do.
Without gravel the Koi just seem to swim around with little point.

I need advice on this matter...

Well, you could attach one of those L/elbow pvc piping fittings on it this should make it hard for it to suck air because the entry part for water is facing down instead of parallel with the water surface!

w/o the L it would need to be very low!

I see one problem. The 2 inch overflow in the center of the barrel looks as if it is even with the top of the plastic drum. The overflow should be alittle lower than the top of the drum or the overflow is not going to help at all. I would move it about an inch from the top of the drum. It may be lower than the pictures look...

I will try to photo it better.
I cut the pipe so it's just under 2 inches below the barrel top edge level.

The photo has it sticking up with nothing around it to judge it's hight by.
Trick of the camera I guess....
