Losing interest?

I think goldfish are the reason you were getting bored of the hobby. Those fish have little to no personality.

Goldfish have tons of personality!!! The ranchus and lionheads are just really sweet. My thai black ranchu got stuck behind a sponge filter and the other ranchu just started freaking out. The thai black ranchu was fine afterwards, but the he/she ended up dying of either egg binding or an intestinal blockage.

Have you seen ranchus? They don't have much personality when they are tiny, but as they get large they develop personality.

I don't pay much attention to goldfish at my lfs. I may only glance at them. I'm just speaking from the few times I did watch the goldfish.
