Losing one of my favorite fish :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just to share my experience, I've lost all of the following to Hem. Septicemica: 2x 10-12" Endli's, 1x 10" Lap, 1x 10" P. B. Koliba, and 1x 4" Endli.
Total I've saved: 1x 9" P. Endli "Tikinso Guinea" + 2x 10-12" P. sp. Hybrid Guinea.
And to be honest, the ones that I saved are the ones who've been infected the most severely, and I was blown away that they made a recovery. I've basically used every form of Metronidazole and Erythromycin that we sell at the shop, and never had luck in the past, though SeaChem Metro + Kanaplex have done absolute wonders for me with other types of fish. The last treatment I used, and the only one I was successful with was Aquarium Solutions "Metro Plus" which is a slightly less concentrated mix of Metronidazole, but is also supposed to help with slime coat regeneration, which my fish needed pretty badly at the time, and I will never use Stress Coat again, and refuse to sell... Anyhow, the only thing that worked for me was daily usage of: full 75gal dosage of Metro Plus, 40gal treatment of epsom salt, and 35-40 gallon water change, all for 5 days.
I hope your fish pulls through, it would be terrible to lose a fish you've had for so long.

I don't know how... but he made it thru the night. Not only that, but I came home from work to find him still hangin in there. I still have a buncha Maracyn-2 so I think that I'm going to do doses every 18 hours(ish) instead of every 24. That way I'm not risking the harms of a doubledose but he's still getting more than a normal case would get. His appearance is a bit better - going to go try to get some pix.

Thanks for all the good wishes - he IS an awesome fish, and I'm not sure I'd ever be happy with my collection again if I lose him.

ETA: Gonna take me a minute for these pix - ended up getting some with 2 different cameras lol

Okay, we had a meltdown technology issue and lost a whole buncha USB cables and converters for my camera we never use anymore, so I don't have the majority of the pix. Can't get access to the one that shows the scales peeling off, or the sunken-in eyes, or an upclose pic of the septicemia, but I have this one. This is actually the better side, not the one photographed yesterday.

I think he looks better - there's more coloration on his body now, not that it's GOOD coloration at all, but at least there's some, right??

Good luck with this guy. Keep us updated.

Wishing you all the best with the little fella. Keep us updated.

I hope he pulls through!! Keep us posted...

Hi keeper.
sorry to see him like that.
if it makes you feel better... Gilmour, one of my endlis, surived a condition similar to that. i used mela(at first) and salt nd wc. i didnt really gamble with anything else so it took me about 3 weeks to cure him. I didnt know what caused it as i was away from home for a week. honestly, i didnt expect him to recover.

goodluck.

Well... don't know how to put it except, he didn't make it through the nite. Kevin was out of bed first, so I didn't have to see him, but I was told his eyes were crystal clear and he looked even better this morning. It just wasn't quite enough healing though.

Here's to Polly, sexiest P. Palmas Polli ever, may he rest in peace.
